Some exciting news coming to the Manitoulin fishing scene!!! A Manitoulin Fishing Tour is being planned for 2021. 4 (or more) two-day derbies with each featuring a different species of fish. Bass (c&r), rainbow, lake trout, walleye (c&r)... A points system for the tour, with an overall Top Prize and recognition of Manitoulin’s top multi-species angler. The Manitoulin Ice Showdown and The Manitoulin Expositor Salmon Classic will also count in the points system. Stay tuned for more details to come in the following weeks.

The cancellation of the popular Manitoulin Expositor Salmon Classic due to the onrushing pandemic earlier this spring lay heavy on the hearts of anglers across Ontario but for University of Western Ontario biology student Jacob Lasci, who is studying for his masters, news of the cancellation was nigh onto calamitousthen came the Salmon Shootout.

The Manitoulin Salmon Shootout had 270 anglers vying for the title of champion salmon angler. At $50 a ticket, this equated to a substantial cash payout for the top three heaviest fish and a much welcome cash donation for Manitoulin Streams, Little Current Fish and Game Club and Gore Bay Fish and Game Club.
Rylan Carrick of Mindemoya, right, no stranger to Fish Manitoulin fans, took buddy Corbin Best of Gore Bay out for his first salmon fish and the pair netted two beauty 18-pounders for their efforts. Congrats you two and may there be many more to come!
