Fish Tales Cottage 27.04.2021

Thank you to everyone for doing your part to 'flatten the curve' and for supporting each other during these unprecedented times. Now, Port Renfrew residents are ready to welcome visitors back to their tranquil community. We are also preparing to welcome guests back to the cottage. Fish Tales Cottage is committed to providing a clean, comfortable and safe atmosphere where guests can enjoy their time while visiting Port Renfrew. In our 'new normal' some things at the cottage w...ill have to be different. For now but maybe not forever, we won't be able to have any extra blankets or throws at the cottage. Our cottage will continue to be thoroughly and professionally cleaned with all the linens replaced after each stay. At this time our housekeeping staff is also taking additional precautions to keep guests safe...including an emphasis on sterilizing high-touch surfaces. If getting outside and into nature is on your list of things to do, then plan your getaway to explore Port Renfrew. Come elevate your spirits, connect with friends and family, and create lasting memories. Reservations: www.fishtalescottage.com See more

Usually I post information to encourage visitors to come to Port Renfrew. Today is different, it’s time to stay home, for now. The residents of Port Renfrew and I have an ‘ask’ of all of you to help protect the safety and health of the residents of the community. The ‘ask’ is for visitors to postpone travelling to Port Renfrew during these unprecedented times caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. In a small remote community with no health facilities and a 2hr. drive to the nearest... hospital it’s frightening to imagine the effect the virus would have for the residents and the vulnerable members of their community. In ‘normal times’ tourism is appreciated in this friendly, small rural community but these are ‘uncertain times’ and right now the residents want to concentrate on the well-being and personal needs of their community members. As owners of Fish Tales Cottage we depend on the services provided by many community members and we want to do what’s needed to help them to stay safe and well. As of today, our contribution is to close Fish Tales Cottage until it’s a safer time for the community to welcome you back to Port Renfrew. Until then, take heart in knowing that together, each of us can do our part to help our communities to get through this. See more

Over the course of the season I get a wide range of questions. The most popular is hows the fishing This question has a way of turning any anglers who try’...s to answer it into a liar. Right place right time and it was a good day, you know the rest. Second most popular I’m coming up in a week what’s the fishing going to be like I just go oh god help me. One question I can answer with out hesitation is which hooks do you recommend for spoons For the last 4 years I’ve been using OWNER Hooks for all my needs. I would like to say these hooks are not disappointing me in any way. We all have something that stands out over the course of the season and for me it was my hook performance. The hooks themselves have small barbs which bend over with out much effort. The holding power of these hooks is phenomenal. I’m going to miss the dock talk with everyone, I hope to see a few faces out in Sidney after Christmas. I have a early Halibut trip to give away, if you can name the sponsors on the boat. For the closet 2 I’ll send out a prize pack. First person to name them in the comments section wins. Good luck.

Finally some nice weather to get out in. Today we headed West looking for halibut, we found some. It was steady action soon as we got the gear down. The best ...part of the day was the amount of coho on the surface. Just a unbelievable amount of Coho finning for miles. The halibut where perfect size 20 to 35 lbs, fat and healthy specimens. They did cough up large Herring and octopus once in the cooler. Good news also is a buddy was 6 miles from me and had the same type of day. My feeling is we are going to have a great season of fishing. I know today was a great start to The season. Can’t wait to see the marina fill up with boats. Let’s hope these calm seas continue into the weekend.
