A few days ago I snapped this picture of what I assumed was a golden-crowned kinglet, a bird that is common for this time of year. After a closer look at the image and some IDing help from @bowvalleybirds, it turns out this bird is actually a ruby-crowned kinglet, a bird that is rare for this time of year! This is the first rare bird I’ve ever found on my own, so I’m very pleased!

This male downy woodpecker and his partner scaled this tree while passing white berries to each other in a kind of dance.. if that isn’t love, I don’t know what is! Someone missed their flight home for the holidays! This Anna’s hummingbird has decided to stick around Calgary for the winter, and luckily a homeowner set up food and shelter to host the hummingbird until it joins up with the rest of its species.
