Thiem, ranked at No. 3 in the world, edged out Nadal in two tight sets 7-6 (7) 7-6 (4) to improve to 2-0 at the Nitto ATP Finals and push the Spaniard to a 1-1 record. "He created damage on me with his general game and I created damage on his as well. He wasn't... the better player and I wasn't the better player. He deserves the victory because he played the big points very well," Nadal said after the match, per Nikolaus Fink. "It was a great match of tennis. It was decided by small details. He played an amazing match and I played well too. My feeling is not negative." I would love that it stays best-of-five," Thiem claimed.
