Finals Week How are all of the students feeling with finals being D O N E 2020/21 was a challenging year for our Paramedic students. ... The pandemic made the program more difficult than it already was in many ways. No free lab time unless scheduled Not seeing the majority of your profs face-to-face Filming your scenarios for tests Wearing masks during your entire fitness + lifting class Not being able to socialize with all of your peers The list goes on and on. But I can confidently say this group made the best of it and powered through in an imposing way. Here are two of our own Fitness F1rst members showing off their strength during their final stair chair lift. I’m so proud of @_hebahafez, @_laurendyck and all other F1 student members for taking ownership of their health, fitness, and strength to prepare their lift tests during this wild ride of first-year PCP school. To all of the students of 2020/2021; enjoy a well-deserved break and keep up your fitness over the summer See everyone in the fall for round two And on the road for you graduating medics #FitnessF1rst

Ontario Gyms Patios Non-essential shopping ... Without getting into the politics of it all, yes, this isn’t ideal Everyone was starting to get back into their gym routine, enjoy a patio beer, and begin their summer shopping. But, we’ve done this before. We know the tricks of getting through this. Lockdown isn’t all that new anymore. We’ve survived hard times. We can do it again. On the bright side, literally , the sun is out and the weather is warm There are tons of ways to get your exercise outside and reap the Vitamin D benefits It does seem mundane at this point, but the spring days ahead will be wasted away if we’re hyper-focused on complaining about actions outside of our control I’m curious... What ispositive thing you’ve implemented in your life that you would have never done or had time for pre-covid? Mine would be falling in love with reading again! What’s yours? #FitnessF1rst

Meet Emily! Em reached out looking for a fitness program to tide her over until the gyms reopened during the second lockdown. She is a Paramedic student whose fitness classes were cancelled and the gyms around her were closed. ... She was still expected to maintain her fitness level during the lockdown as she would be tested on her lifts soon, so she was on the hunt for an at-home workout program! Miss Emily was one of the first members of our Daily Workout program in early December and has been remarkably consistent in completing all five workouts every week since the beginning. Our Level Zero workouts were a great fit for what she was looking for; minimal to no equipment required and the accessory strength portion was suited for that as well. But don’t take it from us, swipe to see what she has to say about the program herself. Em tells us that she’s grown to love her at-home workouts which is a huge plus considering the ongoing lockdowns/restrictions. She was pleasantly surprised to see that her hard work had paid off big time during her lift test practice runs! We are extremely proud of Emily and the effort she has shown over these last few months. We’re also excited to hear how well she does during the actual test! Keep up the amazing work, Emily! If you’re interested in learning more about our Daily Workout program, give us a DM. We’d love to talk more! Stay fit, #FitnessF1rst

Why isn’t the Instagram mobility page I follow helping with my shoulder pain?! Are you working 1-on-1 with them? Did they perform a thorough and educated assessment on your lifestyle, diet, sleep, stress, current flexibility & mobility limitations? Did they test for any strength imbalances? ... Do they even know your name?!?! If no to all of these, & you have a nagging injury that gets cranky every time you put a barbell overhead, get the awkward stair chair out of the ambulance, or lift Grandma off the floor; Then it’s time to stop leaning towards generalized Instagram interventions for help. Get a coach who knows how to customize your training towards your limitation. Sound familiar? Let’s chat.

Always be kind. This time of the year can be extra tough on many. Now more than ever during this new norm of ours and another lockdown insight. ... Not being able to see our families over the holidays, resorting to Christmas mornings via Zoom, doing drive-bys with big signs to let our Grandparents in care facilities know we’re still thinking of them. It’s tough and sad times for many. Be mindful of your words and offer help where you can. You never know the battle people are fighting. Especially true for our first responder community. #FitnessF1rst

New Year’s Resolutions are overrated. Yep. If you want to learn a new language, start eating healthier, pick up an instrument, and be successful with whatever your desired habit is - start small today, and build consistency. ... Learn one new word a day. Choose to eat one healthier meal instead of the full day. Practice the piano for 5 minutes instead of committing an hour. Whatever it is, make it so easy that you can’t say no. Your new habit does not have to start on a Monday, the first of the month, or New Years Day. In fact, it’s more unlikely that you commit to that habit if you do it this way. If you fall off your new habit goal by Wednesday, you may tell yourself: Ah what’s the point, I give up. I’ll start again Monday I’ve been guilty of this plenty of times, btw! This leads to missing out on four full days of building that habit purely out of this unneeded fear that it isn’t the first of the week/month/year. Or worse, quitting altogether. When in reality, if you start today and realize how simple and effective one small choice a day can be, you’ll build slow and steady consistency overtime. That’s what we’re looking for. Consistency! Once you can do that one small habit daily for a week, add a small amount to it. 2 new words a day. 1 meal plus a snack as your healthier options today. 10 minutes of practicing the piano. Continue the habit for a week. Add. Repeat. Repeat. Are you wanting to make exercise a daily habit for you? We can help. #FitnessF1rst

It doesn’t have to be fancy! 10-15 minutes of moving the body, however is most convenient for you, is always a reliable way to feel more productive and regain your focus. Especially for us who have to sit a lot at work in the ambulance or during offload delay at the hospital ... And of course, your Sunday football afternoons, can anyone relate to these other than @thehulkfromireland? I’m always a big advocate of going for a walk or doing something that involves any type of activity when I start having low energy, lose focus on my work or, begin to get moody It helps me reset and get back to what's most important for the day My favourites: taking Paisley for a walk in the woods, a quick YouTube flow video, biking in the greenbelt while Pais chases me If I'm at work: a walk wherever is possible (hospital, outside around the base) and stretches using the truck - I can make a video of some if people are interested! What are some of yours? I'd love to know! Enjoy your Sunday & the snow #FitnessF1rst

What others choose to do is ultimately outside of your control and none of your business at the end of the day. If someone is being a jerk, let them be. If someone isn’t taking care of themself after help has been offered, so be it.... If you’re acting out of sorts; catch it, stop it, and work on preventing it from happening again. Be disciplined with yourself and your reactions. That’s in your control. That’s your business. - Marcus Aurelius See more
