There used to be a time when I would throw in the towel and give up on myself. Typically it happened when I didn’t see results right away, daily life became a distraction, or I just wasn’t disciplined enough to keep working for what I wanted. Then one day, I decided enough was enough. That was when I joined a group of like-minded people who helped hold me accountable to my goals. Ever since then, I’ve stopped making excuses for myself and started helping others achieve the...ir goals as well. I’m not telling you that I haven’t wanted to give up at times, because I most definitely have. The only difference now is, that I CHOOSE to show up for myself on a daily basis. Some days look different than others. Some days that means working out and crushing my nutrition, and other days that means just getting out of bed and looking after things. Before, I would fall off the fitness band wagon and give up completely. Now, if I miss a day or two, I start back up where I left off. Comfort Food! . What gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling? Is it salty, or the feel of fat on our lips or maybe is something sweet? I bet you have just went there and thought of all those foods that make you feel so good! . While these comfort foods fill our stomach and souls, let’s face it, they are not the healthiest foods.... There’s no denying that comfort food makes us feel good. But is there a scientific reason for that satisfaction, or is it all in our heads? And are there really ways to satisfy those comfort food cravings? Here’s what you need to know. . Comfort food is any food that provides a sense of well-being, nostalgia, or comfort. Culture, upbringing, dietary habits, and past experiences can all shape what a person reaches for as comfort food. If you weren’t happy as a kid did your Mom make you your favourite dessert or give you a cookie? That’s learned behaviour and it sticks with us. It really has nothing to do with the specific food and everything to what you associate with it. Did you just have a lightbulb moment? So, do comfort foods really make you feel better? Well maybe for the first few bites but it’s short lived. But after it’s gone you still must deal with whatever emotion you had when you first had when you at the food! So, HOW do I handle that? What if you just had a few bites or only half of what you would normally eat? Eating half is much better than diving in face first and lick the bottom of the dish. Another thought is if you are craving something sweet or salty, maybe try and find something that gives you that initial feeling but isn’t going to blow your week. Finally, you can try and make a healthier version? Overall I think if you are just aware of why you are looking for that comfort food is half the battle and if you want those few bites to get you through then by all means have it! Making good food choices . . . at the grocery store can help you make good decisions at home! Fact! If you plan your week and have the food in your fridge you will 100% have a good week.... So now that I am home I am going to plan my dinners with what I purchased at the grocery store. What about you? Do you plan for the week? .
