She founded Heart Health, a First Aid and CPR training company in Winnipeg and has certified thousands of lay public and healthcare professionals throughout Manitoba. In addition to a busy training schedule, Karlene has been a Registered Nurse for nearly 20 years. She completed her Bachelor of Nursing degree at the University of Manitoba and has a Master of Education from Memorial University in St. John's, Newfoundland. Karlene’s nursing career has taken her around the world, as a travel and flight nurse throughout the US, and aboard cruise ships as a head-nurse with Norwegian Cruise Lines. Over the past 10 years, she has worked full time at Red River College in Winnipeg, MB teaching in the Bachelor of Nursing program, developing curriculum and instructing undergrad nurses. The pandemic has brought challenges but also opportunity. WEEK FIVE SPEAKER Follow at Jessica, Sleepy Bunny Sleep Consulting @sleepybunnysleepconsulting... Jessica is a Certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant, momma, wife, prairie girl and currently can't get enough of iced capps or boston cream donuts. I LOVE sleep so when my daughter Lily was born and I wasn't getting my cushy 8 hrs every night, I was not having it and became obsessed with baby sleep. I soon realized how much "never sleeping again" is normalized but is so not true!! Or at least, it doesn't have to be true! This motivated me to start my journey to becoming a certified coach. From there, Sleepy Bunny Pediatric Sleep Consulting was born and now I help families from all over the world get more sleep, more consistency in their lives, less stress and all in a way that matches with their goals and values. We are so thrilled that Jessica will be hosting our Week 5 Expert Q&A session Baby Sleep Basics in the New Years Fitness Fyxx Baby & Me Virtual Bootcamp! Relinquishing Control. Please tell me this topic is as difficult for you as it is for me!? Today in the prenatal & postnatal care world there is so much focus on the things we cannot control. I am here to say it sucks, cause frankly, it just does. But I’m also here to support you to consider what shifting your focus to the items you CAN control. ... Here are some things we unfortunately CANNOT control right now: 1. You cannot control if your delivery team requires you to deliver in a mask. 2. You cannot control if your support team cannot attend your first ultrasound with you. 3. You cannot control if your prenatal care is less frequent or at times offered virtual. 4. You cannot control the provincial restriction level which has altered your pregnancy, maternity leave and employment vastly. 5. You cannot control those around you, their actions and their current health status. 6. You cannot control who gets (or does not get) the vaccine and how they are prioritized. 7. You cannot control others. (although we try so dang hard, don’t we?) Does that list seem as exhausting to you, as it is for me? Phew. Okay, now let’s shift it around. Let’s energy transfer into things we can control. Today we can control: 1. How much water we drink (guzzles water) 2. What we choose to eat 3. How we do (or don’t) prioritize exercise 4. How we hold our daily postures 5. Whether we reach out to friends virtually and check in with them 6. Whether we use our allied health teams (massage therapy, athletic therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, osteopathy, acupuncturists, chiropractors, naturopaths, doulas, etc the list goes on) that are hear to support you in this unique journey. 7. Whether we use trainers and fitness facilities working endless hours to serve you up creative virtual options (many free) to help bridge the gap between in-person fitness experiences to the online platform. 8. And lastly, how we breathe. It’s not as easy as dropping one list for another, that would be crazy to assume, but we can start shifting. Try breathing in our control and breathing out others. I love you to pieces mama’s - hang in there.

PJ Fight. Thanks COVID - for making the epic morning battle of getting kids out of their pyjamas even more difficult ... When they ask? But where are we going? Fair enough I guess. ... The clothing I can always talk them into is the @xo_littlerowe gear.
