One element to designing a workout is to move our bodies through the different planes of motion. The 3 planes of motion are: transverse, sagittal & frontal. Transverse Plane: Cuts the body into top & bottom halves. Twisting/rotating movements. Spinal rotation, limb rotation, twisting, pivoting, horizontal adduction/abduction, pronation/supination.... Sagittal Plane: Cuts the body into left & right halves. Forward & backward movements. Walking, pushing, pulling, squat, vertical jump, bicep curls, calf raise (plantar/dorsi flexion). We spend a majority of our daily lives in this plane of motion. Frontal Plane: Cuts the body into front & back halves. Side-to-side movements. Side shuffles, side lunges, lateral arm raises, adduction and abduction of hip/shoulder, inversion/eversion, jumping jacks, side bends Incorporating multiplanar, compound exercises that get you moving through all planes of motion, while using multiple joint actions and muscle groups, is a great way to work on mobility, flexibility, stability, and strength. #fitufitness #workout #personaltraining #workoutplanning
