4 TIPS to stay CONSISTENT If you want to see results, you have to stay consistent. Starting is easy, but because you are excited and motivated. Continuing and creating a lifestyle is the difficult part, but it is definitely achievable. 1 stop relying on MOTIVATION... Motivation will come and go, some days you won’t feel like going at all, but if you make it a habit you will avoid the temptation to skip your training session 2 start SMALL This may be a massive lifestyle change, so you do not want to overwhelm yourself from the beginning. If you eventually want to workout or run 3-5 days a week, start with 3 and work your way up 3 have a PLAN It is so much easier to show up with a plan, instead of making up your plan during your workout. That can be daunting, so take the time and make a plan before each session or hire a coach to make one for you 4 stop the EXCUSES There is an endless amount of excuses of why you can’t get your run or workout in. Instead, shift your mindset to how you will feel once it’s done and what you are capable of achieving It is so important to be consistent with your workouts and your nutrition. Marathon Transformation - Running for me isn’t about being better than someone else. It’s about being better than I was yesterday. Running teaches me that life is a journey, to make the hard days count & gives a sense of accomplishment. I keep running to push my limits, inspire others, for the runner’s high, & to let you know anything is possible when you put your mind to it! May 2019 @calgarymarathon - I ran my first marathon with little experiencee but tons of expectat...ions on myself. I found a training plan online that had little to no speed work & ran all my easy runs in the grey zone. I didn’t fuel well before or during the marathon, started out way to fast, crossed the finish line in pain & missed a BQ by 42 seconds. I was crushed but determined I wanted to try for another BQ before the year was out. September 2019 @runqcm - My second marathon, earned a 12 minute PB & a BQ. After my first marathon I learned some valuable lessons when it comes to running. Those being that it’s okay to hire a coach, speed work, strength training & nutrition are important, to run easy runs easier & dig deeper on those hard days. Those four months of change paid off huge as I was Boston bound April 2020! September 2020 #virtual @bostonmarathon - Marathon 3 was supposed to be running the streets of Boston instead I was running the streets of Saskatoon in a virtual marathon with only a handful of close friends. I had been training for 10 months straight & knew I was stronger & faster than 2019, just didn’t know how much stronger. I had been working in the fundamental stage of training since March with a focus on a quality speed workout weekly, cut back long runs & worked on slowing down my easier runs & staying in the prescribed range. I ran through 3 different seasons - bitter cold, snow, ice, wind, rain, heat, got through tough work outs, had early bed time’s & even earlier wake up calls, sore muscles, turned down drinks & ran long runs on vacation. But all that was so worth it to have my ppl watch me earn a PB of over 7 minutes in a virtual race setting. Live races i’m ready you & to see what I still have left to give .

A very rare occurrence of the whole family together in one place, had to be documented. The time at home flew by way too quickly but was well worth it. I got to do some of the stuff I love while at home, like combining, riding with @farmgirl_1989, hanging out with the nieces, nephew & family, stocking up on garden vegetables, running the country roads, home cooked meals, and just soaking in the time on the farm as it doesn’t happen near as often as it should! The importance of SLEEP to help aid RECOVERY Sleep is just as important as the time you spend running or working out. Did you know there are 3 different stages of sleep? They include: light, REM (rapid eye movement) & slow wave sleep. When you’re in the light sleep stage you are still somewhat alert and can be easily woken. REM is the stage of memory and information retention. You are generally in REM 90 minutes after you fall asleep. Your brain is most active during th...is stage and you experience the quick eye movements. Slow wave sleep aka deep sleep is where your body is repairing and rebuilding muscles & tissues that were broken down earlier in the day/week during training. There’s just something about starting your morning off with a run. I love the fresh air first thing in the morning & how it leaves me feeling more relaxed & ready to take on the day. - Here are 6 tips to become a morning runner 1 prepare your clothes the night before Check the weather the night before and plan your outfit accordingly. Then leave them in the bathroom or somewhere that’s easy to grab in the morning.... 2 get enough sleep Your alarm clock is gonna go off early. So try and get 7-8 hours of sleep if you can. It may require you to go to bed a little earlier. 3 warm up Allow yourself time to do a little warm up as your muscles will be stiff and will help reduce the risk of injury. If you need ideas I have a pre run warm up post. 4 begin slower Keep the first mile or two slow until your body has adjusted to the movement. Hearing the cancellation of Boston 2020 had me saddened as I worked so damn hard to qualify for. I was looking forward to taking in the whole Boston experience including running heartbreak hill,getting to experience the post race party at Fenway park & taking in the sites of Boston. But as devastating as it is I know they made the right decision for everyone’s health and safety. I know running the virtual event won’t be even close to the same experience as the actual Bo...ston marathon it will still be rewarding and a once-in-a-lifetime experience & crossing the finish line in 2021 will be so much more meaningful . On another note, I pushed my speed workout off yesterday and ran it today after work. Started the day with a full body strength session & finished the day with a much needed run. Today’s run I had 3 goals in mind: move past the work day & what it brought, use this run to clear my mind & to SLOW things down. I was able to clear my mind but SLOWING down is gonna be a work in progress. It’s never been a strong suit of mine ask my family. I have always been a busy body and have one speed and one speed only. If COVID-19 has taught me anything it’s to be T H A N K F U L. Thankful that I get to be with @adamthom44 & Alfie, thankful I still have a have a job to go to everyday that also allows you to earn paid days off to keep on top of your mental health. Scrolling through my new feed and seeing everyone else’s accomplishments & favourite moments in 2019 had me inspired to reflect on my own. 2019 was a pretty incredible year for me with lots of PBs, travel & family time. So before jumping into 2020 with some new goals I want to reflect on my top 9 #instagram favourites from 2019. It was weighted heavily on earning my #BQ at the @runqcm 1 Running the @runqcm & not only earning my entry to the 2020 @bostonmarathon but also ...being the top female in my age category and third female overall. To make the experience more incredible was having family there to watch me cross the finish line. 2 Running my first ever marathon at @calgarymarathon & just missing a #BQ by 42 seconds which fuelled the fire that much more for the @runqcm. Again having family there made the miss and experience that much better. 3 Earning a new 10km PB of 40:50 at the @stampederoadrace, finishing 2nd in my age category & 3rd female overall to earn me some money (first in my running career) 4 Running alongside @adamthom as he earned himself a new 5km PB at the Operun in Battleford. Made for a proud fiancé & to top it off he signed up for another 5km a month later! 5 Adam. Being not only my life partner, my travelling partner, Alfie’s dad & supporting me while I chase all my crazy running and fitness dreams. 6 Alfie. My number one companion & running buddy who makes every day more memorable. Cant wait to continue making memories with him. 7 Working with @blairknoxphotography and getting some fitness and boudoir shots in. He knows how to make a girl feel confident and comfortable in her own skin. 8 Family. I may not get to see them as much as I’d like being 8 hours away but I make sure that I make the best of it when I do. It’s always nice having them come for a visit. It’s extra special when they come and cheer me on at all my races . . 9 All the basement workouts that have made me a strong runner and has increased my overall strength. This year I brought my best body throughout the entire year. Finally, I have some pretty big goals set for 2020 & can’t wait to continue to share my journey with all of you. @ Regina, Saskatchewan
