25 years ago today, April 19th, 1996, Fitz "The Whip " Vanderpool made history, bringing the first ever professional boxing championship belt back to Kitchener/...Waterloo! Having moved to KW with family in 1972 from humble beginnings in Trinidad & Tobago, who would have thought it possible! Growing up midst 5 brothers all versed in the sweet science, things were always competitive. Almost unheard of among professional boxers, Fitz was self-managed, self-financed, and self-promoted. Paired with coach and confidant Joe Hajnal Sr., R.I.P, the two had hopes of one day winning a championship belt! Upon getting tko'd by former World Champion Charles "The Natural " Murray in 1995, Fitz finally received the call he was waiting for... chance to fight for the Canadian Professional Boxing Federation Championship! In order to qualify, Fitz "The Whip" would have to move up a weight class and fight Tony "Bad Boy" Badea, who had 13 wins - 0 losses - and 10 ko's in his hometown of Edmonton Alberta. The fight was rather competitive util Fitz unleashed the "WHIP" in 6th round to stop Badea cold, becoming the new CPBF Welterweight champion! It was an amazing day and Fitz proudly brought his championship belt back to Kitchener/Waterloo to share with the community! Telling his story using the WHIP acronym: "With Hope It's Possible" Fitzroy remains a living legend, inspiring souls young and old to believe in miracles and chase their dreams! #inspiringhope Wishing you were here in person to celebrate my big 25th anniversary pop's. Rest In Paradise

Are you counting the moments or making the moments count .As we all going through this stressful time with ,I would like to share a moment in time. 22 years ago... today I made my father the proudest man in the World and rightly so..I Fitz "The Whip " Vanderpool became the World Boxing Federation Superwelterweight World Champion. It was a grueling fight that was scheduled 12 rounds against an American boxer Stephan Johnson (R.I.P).Going into the 11th round I was behind on the score cards .My coach poppa Joe Hajnal Sr(R.I.P)told me I needed a knock out or I would lose this fight .I got off my stool like a man on a mission and started the 11th round fast .I hit Stephan with my right hand ,the ' WHIP" and had him hurt .I followed up with a flurries of punches and he collapsed on the ring canvas .The referee quickly stepped in and stopped the fight making me ,the new WBF Superwelterweight Champion of the World .As I celebrate this 22 Anniversary today , I know my pop's is proudly looking down, all smiles. R.I.P love you and miss you . See more
