Megan’s little flock is laying like crazy! Many of them she raised from chicks and her mix of Americauna’s, Caramel Queens, Barred Rocks, ISA Browns and White Leghorns produce a beautifully coloured egg basket They rotate thru the orchard paddocks so also help keep pests off the fruit trees. Not only is she responsible for all their care, cleaning and boxing eggs but also buys the feed herself out of her egg money #fivesistersfarm #layingflock #meganshens
We’ve had an insane amount of rain today - not steady but short deluges where you felt like you stood under a waterfall - so everything is looking VERY green! The sheep have large trees in their field to shelter under with the dogs, ponies and butterflies ventured out during the dry moments. #fivesistersfarm #sogreen #beautifulbc
On the ferry heading home with the newest members of the farm - Ponderosa Hugo and Ponderosa Heidi. They are both purebred registered Shropshires from Ponderosa Farm in the Okanagan. Love Hugo’s big woolie face! Such a contrast to Heidi’s very feminine one. Only 4 months old but already a big boy He will be our new flock sire so purebred Shropshire lambs next spring! #fivesistersfarm #shropshires #firstferryride #farmlife
True for Canada to. A very interesting article!
Field cleanup And of course marshmallows! #fivesisterfarm #spring2020 #keepingbusy
Despite the uncertainty and restrictions on right now, life on the farm carries on pretty much as normal. Spring is always busy with new lambs but this year we also have 37 acres of new hay fields/pasture to plant and 15 existing ones to revamp. First step is lots of lime! And now we have the equipment to spread it - a 12ft gently used drop spreader. Amazing what will fit in the van! 39 tons of lime and a ton of seed to spread so it will be a busy few weeks! #fivesistersfarm #spring2020 #hayfields #dropspreader #somuchtodo
Sherman and Felix on babysitting duty! #fivesistersfarm #spring2020 #lambs #LGDS
We’re doing a big revamp of our existing hay fields and pastures this year as well as seeding another 37 acres of freshly cleared land. This should triple our hay and grazing capacity but in the mean time we will be cutting back on our sheep numbers to give the new grass time to establish. So we’ll have quality proven ewes (2-5 years old) available (possibly some with lambs at foot) and a proven 3 yr old registered Romanov ram. Peter is super sweet, loves a scratch but not at all pushy. Ewes are mostly Charolais/Corriedale cross and a couple registered Shropshire. Everyone has been wormed, vaccinated with Glanvac 6 and feet trimmed, very well trained to electric fence and the bucket! Great starter flock! $200-$400 each, $ negotiable for group
TRIPLETS Very happy with our home bred half Romanov yearling ewes. So far 4 of these girls have lambed, giving us 3 sets of twins and these cuties. And good mums #fivesistersfarm #lambs2020 #romanovs #triplets

Spring is in the air today! #fivesistersfarm #snowdrops
Sleet, rain and masses of heavy melting snow! Yesterday was a good day to be inside - sort of Emma, Eryn and I spent the day in the barn giving our flock of ewes their pre lambing spa day - feet trimmed, vaccinated, wormed and wooly nether regions tidied up. The dogs supervised 36 ewes done and my backs feeling it this morning! Ben was out in the sleet on the tractor trying to clear last nights snow and give the water somewhere to go! #fivesistersfarm #sheepspaday #winter2020
Well the snow arrived with a vengeance and the tractors getting a workout! And Bens getting lots of practice figuring out how everything works My turn tomorrow #fivesistersfarm #snow #winterwonderland #johndeere
Tractor arrived just in time for the big snow storm! #fivesistersfarm #saywardfarm #tractor #allsetnow #letitsnow
