A message in response to this week's media release: When Tuesday night's news about a potential COVID exposure at Fix was aired, we were as surprised as you - that was the first news we had heard of it as well. We learned the hard way that VIHA protocol does not include contacting affected businesses prior to a media release. Ideally we would have liked to reach out personally to the people who were in clinic those days so that we could have provided you with any informat...ion we had and to answer your individual questions. We were finally able to speak with a VIHA representative late yesterday. Although getting in touch individually with our patients would have been our preference, the VIHA representative said that individual patient notification is not necessary and that is why they do the media releases. They said that all people in Victoria, not just people who have been to Fix, should be social distancing and monitoring for symptoms. They suggested that people review the information on the BCCDC and VIHA websites: https://www.islandhealth.ca//diseases-conditions/novel-cor http://covid-19.bccdc.ca/ Due to understandable patient confidentiality reasons, VIHA cannot release any information about the affected person. They were able to confirm that the potential exposure was at the Downtown clinic, not at Selkirk, and that the person was present at the clinic on both of the days in question (14th and 16th). There were multiple people present both days. As reassurance, we can say that in particular during those few weeks before we closed we had an increased focus on cleaning in clinic including special sanitizing cleaning sessions, using medical grade cleansers, and the extensive use of disinfectants which all staff were using between patients. This was in addition to our usual practices of excellent hand hygiene - hand washing and hand sanitizer. We hope that you are staying well during this challenging time. Your Fix Healthcare team

Dear Fix Healthcare community: Given the recent Provincial Health Officer’s recommendations, we will be temporarily closing our clinic doors in order to protect our staff, patients, and communities. We are excited to welcome two new registered massage therapists to our team - Shelby Rose + Megan McManus! Shelby’s passion for massage therapy stems from her lifelong love of science and her desire to help others. Her thorough understanding of the human body allows her to assess and treat a wide variety of conditions confidently and effectively. She typically uses trigger point release, active and passive pin and stretch, low grade joint mobilizations, and Swedish massage ...techniques in her treatments. She is known for her use of deep pressure, however, she can adjust to meet each individual patient's needs. Megan was first introduced to massage therapy while teaching yoga at Fix Healthcare Selkirk and seeking relief from some knee pain due-to long distance running. After her first therapeutic massage treatment she was hooked and knew that helping athletes maintain healthy, balanced training through massage and patient education was what she wanted to do. She looks forward to working with weekend warriors, high performance athletes, or anyone that is looking to take on a more active lifestyle.

New at Fix Downtown: Pilates Instructor Caroline Farquhar! Now available on Wednesday mornings, 8 am-noon. Caroline approaches Pilates as the ideal foundation for each individual to source their best physical condition: whether they are recovering from injury, dealing with chronic pain, or striving to put the pieces together for their best athletic performance. She first came to Pilates for chronic lower back pain during her dance career (due to an undiagnosed scoliosis & a...ssociated muscle imbalance) - and has found Pilates endlessly inspiring ever since, completing her first instructor certification through the PhysicalMind Institute of Canada in 2010. Caroline brings a wealth of experience, understanding, and positivity knowing that the human body is capable of greater change, recovery and performance than we sometimes believe is possible.

Brianna is passionate and dedicated to using a balanced approach to healing. By viewing the body as a whole and taking into consideration many aspects of one’s life, such as emotion, digestion, physical health and lifestyle, she empowers her patients to optimize their health and facilitates their... healing process with comprehensive treatment plans. Treatments may include Nutrition & Lifestyle Recommendations, Cupping, Trigger Point Muscle Release, Moxibustion, and Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture. Using these therapies Brianna treats a wide range of concerns such as: digestive imbalances, emotional stress, acute & chronic pain, impaired range of motion and sport injuries. When she’s not seeing patients, you can find Brianna spending her free time hiking and exploring the many wonders of the West Coast of British Columbia.

- New Physiotherapy Class @ Fix Selkirk in June - Join Physiotherapist Bryn Thompson for his 3-part series TRE (Tension/Trauma Release Exercises) Classes on Tuesday, June 4th, 11th, and 18th from 10-11:30 AM in our Selkirk studio. TRE is a series of exercises that fatigue the lower part of the body which then allows the body to go into a more restful state. This allows the release of tension which can build up in the body both from everyday activities as well as from stres...sful and/or traumatic events. This system created by Dr. Bercelli has been in use for over 25 years in several countries around the world. Bryn has been using TRE and its teachings as part of his practice for several years and has found that it has been a missing link in the healing process for many people. By the end of the 3 session series, you should feel comfortable working on the exercises on your own, giving you a tool to use on your own or in coordination with other therapies. We are excited to welcome physiotherapist Marco Crescenzi to the Fix team, beginning this weekend! He is available at our Downtown location throughout the week, including Saturdays. Marco’s main interest and focus lies in concussion rehabilitation. He has also completed his advanced level vestibular training and is certified in Acupuncture and Functional Dry Needling. Marco’s physiotherapy practice focuses on the body as a whole and his goal with each patient is to educate them on their condition and their causes. By doing so he can empower his patients to take an active role in their rehabilitation process. He is a firm believer that an active treatment plan is the key to a successful recovery.

Meet Carl! Carl Cachia is one of our new physios, and comes to Fix having recently moved from Vancouver. Carl’s passion lies in the rehabilitation of sports injuries, especially running injuries - a good skill to have in a place like Victoria! He enjoys working with back and neck injuries, together with peripheral areas. He brings over 15 years of experience to Fix, as well as a Research Masters in Rehab Science and a Clinical Masters in Manipulative therapy. He has trained using dry needling (IMS) and Acupuncture and emphasizes a hands on approach in his treatment to help get you back to doing your favourite things as quickly as possible.
