It’s important that we as Humans understand how our behaviour to the Natural Environment impacts All Life on Earth. There is evidence that preserving natural habitats reduces the risk of diseases spilling over from wildlife. In early August, a paper published in Nature found that ecosystems that were heavily used by human beings contained a greater abundance and wider variety of wildlife that carried pathogens and parasites capable of infecting people. We need to look at t...he parts of the world where spillover is common and think about the effect that environmental degradation may be having, notes Wood. It seems that wildlife species that are under environmental stress, often due to land-use change, are more likely to excrete large doses of virus; that raises the risk of both an epidemic in the host population and of spillover. The major thing is to change our behaviour, adds David Morens, senior advisor to the director at the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. That means stopping deforestation, perturbing the environment, bat cave tourism, and intensive farming See more

Day 250 Landback Update 250 days. It is important to mark these milestone days in our journey to assert our rights to this land. Each day of our existence and e...very minute of this fight is another day we have won. Another win because of our people’s commitment and dedication to each other, the land and future generations. We would like to express gratitude to each other and all of the people who have worked so hard and sacrificed so much over the last 250 days. It has not been easy but the jokes, endless laughs, love and lessons have made each day possible. As we sit with the rains and the winds we look forward to our upcoming responsibilities to this small parcel of land. We are preparing to rehabilitate the soil and plant gardens and fruit trees. Medicine gardens and collecting what these lands still have to offer. This is our duty as stewards of this land. This is what we are fighting for - to no longer be forced to sever ties to this land that we are so directly connected. Still lots to do to keep us here. Lawyers are working on keeping our people out of their cages. Tiny homes are being built. They aren’t real big but they are the castles of this resistance. Our people’s resilience is amazing. Everyone is still working away to keep us here and safe. It is truly amazing to see what we can do with the support of our community. As our nation's deconstruct hundreds of years of colonial genocide, and we find a way forward, to reconcile deep bands of mistrust between government and people, our lands will NOT be developed! We will not disappear. Whether you feel represented by the band council system, the confederacy chiefs, the Mohawk nation or feel unrepresented at all, we must make these stands now, and we must make them together. #LandBack #1492LandBackLane
