This client works in a lab. Their -80C freezer had a broken door handle latch, so they were keeping the freezer closed with a ratchet strap. (Resourceful!) This repair was time sensitive since this lab needed to get back to using their freezer ASAP! What we thought would be a simple removal and reinstallation turned into a bit more of an involved rebuilding, but in the end this railing looks like it's always been this way. Our client wanted to move their railing over to make room for a new downspout. Since there was already a jog in the railing, it made perfect sense! However, when we removed the section of railing, we realized that it wasn't in as good a condition as we had all hoped. No problem! We replaced the rotte...n sections with new matching materials, put it all back together, re-installed, and repainted it to match. This client had previously had a leak under their kitchen sink. The leak not only created visible water damage, but also caused the bottom of this cabinet to pull away and sag. These lecture hall stairs, while beautiful, were a bit slippery and not overly safe. We sourced and installed this grip tape on each of the stairs to provide extra traction and to better indicate the edge of each stair. We built this steel pipe railing for the commercial building we manage called TheHubTO. The cool thing about it is that it is built with removable couplings (usually for gas) that allow the whole section to be removed with a couple of wrenches or pairs of pliers. This allows large items to fit up the staircase, but still provides safety during regular operation. We have the capability to cut and thread any size pipe, so that we can customize a solution without being limited to stock sizes. This custom railing project consisted of two separate sections - a handrail and a guardrail. We custom fit the handrail on site to ensure a perfect fit, since it needed to jut out to contour an existing planter box. Then, back in the workshop, we completed the fabrication and painting. Believe it or not, this trim build-up is actually 4 different types of mouldings working together to form this design. The material is solid poplar. So many homes today (especially condos) have flat MDF trim, which is ok, but look how incredible this looks! There are lots of different shapes that we can use to make the trim a visual, focal element that really pops. Nothing like a rainy day to remind you how window sills love to bubble when they’re made of MDF! (common in most downtown condos). We replaced the window seal with pre-primed wood we had in our shop, cut to fit into place. Condo HVAC filters are not changed frequently enough - usually only 2 times a year by the condo corporations. You can easily check yours by opening the door to see if there is dirt / lint / etc. on the filter. If you have pets, the filters can get hairy and dirty (and sometimes smelly) much quicker. We suggest you check every 2 months or so. Remember that this is the air you are breathing in your home. The filters aren't super expensive (usually $10-$15) and can be found on...line or at hardware stores like @Rotblotts Discount Warehouse in downtown Toronto. Just measure the width and height in inches to purchase the right replacement filters and you can even buy 6 and stick them in your closet for the next times. As a stopgap measure, you can also vacuum the dirty filter and rinse it from the back side in your kitchen sink. Just make sure it's nice and dry before you reinstall it! Alternatively, we also happily provide this service, which is especially great for property managers or landlords who care about their tenants and keeping their equipment running well. We can make sure your tenants are stocked-up and know how to change the filters, so your equipment runs properly and your tenants can breathe clean air. Do I think that condos should at least change filters 4 times a year instead of 2? Yes. Will they? Probably not. Take matters into your own hands or hire us to help!
