We had an amazing February at the food bank. Thank you to Mother Nature for working with us and providing so many dry and beautiful Wednesdays for us to serve our families. In February, we ran our Valentine's Day draw to lift our families' spirits while continuing to provide a variety of staple foods PLUS fresh local fruit, vegetables, cheese, eggs, lunch meats, and treats. Our community impact summary for February 2021.... 1. We had a total of 329 (up from 296 in January) food bank visits, serving over 1,100 people. 2. We provided 178 snack packs for school-aged children. 3. We held a Valentine's Day raffle for adults and provided toys on hand from Christmas to the kids. 4. We provided diapers, wipes, baby formula for more than 30 families registered in our baby program. 5. We provided, on request, washable masks, All of this is doable because of our amazing volunteers and the generous donations from our Flamborough community. Thank you to Fortinos and the entire community of Flamborough for the amazing support of the Thanksgiving food bag program. You packaged and purchased 100's of bags filled with pantry foods. Our families are most grateful! And thank you to our volunteers who drive to Fortinos then out to Carlisle to the food bank to drop off all those bags. Trust me it is quite a feat to load, unload all those bags back into grocery carts and up the ramp and into the food bank. Turkey Day today at the fooodbank! It is always a special day when we get the privilege to hand out Thanksgiving dinners to our families. What an incredible afternoon. We provided over 80 hampers this afternoon and more will go out tonight. Thank you to our hamper leaders Elisa and Karolina. All the volunteers who make this day possible. Thank you to Norm from Harvey's for buying all of the turkeys, gravy and stuffing. Thank you to Soups, From Me to You for providing over... 80 homemade soups. Thank you to Sobeys Flamborough for sourcing the turkeys, donating all of the frozen vegetables we gave out & for donating $200. Thank you to Waterdown Collision for donating $795 to the program. Thank-you Fortinos for all of the pre-packed food bags that we handed out. Thank-you Flamborough farmers for providing all of the fresh produce. Thank you all! Hello Flamborough, September was an incredible month at the food bank. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen a 30% increase in foodbank usage. In September, we were able to provide our families with the Emergency Food Box, PLUS fresh local fruit, vegetables, cheese, eggs, lunch meats, cereals, and treats. Our community impact summary for September 2020.... 1. We had a total of 359 (up from 256 in August, though Sept was a 5 week month) food bank visits, serving over 1,400+ people, including 164 migrant farmworkers. 2. We provided over 500 snack packs for school-aged children. 3. We provided a record 150+ backpacks, loaded with school supplies to community school children. 4. We provided books and DVD's supplied to us by the Hamilton Public Library. 5. We provided, on request, washable face coverings All of this is doable because of our amazing volunteers and the generous donations from our Flamborough community. Soroptimist's Live Your Dream Awards program is a unique education grant for women who provide the primary financial support for their families. Live Your Dream Awards give women the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment prospects. Happy Saturday Flamborough! Today was the annual food drive hosted by the Calvary Christian Reformed Church - Flamborough. The food drive was moved from the Spring to the Fall because of COVID-19. The change in date nor the pandemic deterred response. Wow what an amazing result! Check out the photos. Thousands of pounds of food was donated. We have such an amazing community.
