Have you ever wondered why you shed hair everyday and never go bald? Our hair is in a constant cycle of growth, shedding and dormancy. Anagen Phase - the longest cycle. 85-90% of the hair is in this cycle. It lasts 3-5 years. The Anagen phase is slowly building hair cells bit by bit to add length to the hair. 0.3 - 0.5mm a day. ... Catagen Phase - the bulb starts to shrink and push upward. The hair is cut off from the blood supply and the hair strand starts to loosen. This phase lasts 2-3 weeks. Telogan Phase - the resting phase of the hair cycle. At the end of the Telogan phase a new hair follicle starts to form and the old follicle can easily fall out. This lasts 3-5 months. On average we shed 100 hairs a day. Next time you noticed a little shedding don't worry, your hair is justing going through the Telogan phase and a new hair strand is being created!

On my healthy hair journey I've realized hair health doesn't just happen topically, it also takes place from what you feed your body. For the past 2 months I've been taking supplements from Nature's Fare Markets for hairgrowth and guess what......it works! I started digging deep, what specifically in these magic little pills is making my hair FINALLY grow? All the ingredients are pretty amazing but similar to my multivitamin. It turns out what's different is a plant called ...Saw Palmetto. Saw Palmetto is the latest and greatest New supplement to help with hair loss in men and female pattern baldness. I won't get too wordy buuuuut the hormones testosterone and type 2 alpha resuctase combined in the body form DHT which cases hair loss. Saw Palmetto is known to block DHT hormones that cause hair loss. I hope this information has been helpful *I am not an expert on the matter of hair loss. What works for me may not work on everyone. I am just sharing my experience and what I have discovered. *

I don't know about you but this time of year EVERYTHING on me is extra dry! My skin, cuticles, hair, eyes. Oils on our skin and hair are so beneficial, they offer omegas, antioxidants, vitamins, moisture. Something I recently learned is not all carrier oils are created equally. Absorption rates vary depending on the oil and if its refined or unrefined. ... Argan oil leaves a slight oily feel on skin but is nourishing hair with Vitamin E and fatty acids. Organic unrefined oconut oil has a non-greasy absorption on skin, while refined coconut oil can create an oily barrier in skin and hair. Organic Camellia seed oil has rejuvenating and antioxidant properties and leaves a smooth finish on skin and is commonly used in hair products in Asia. Organic Hemp oil is easily absorbed into skin and has nourishing properties to hair such as Omegas and high protein. I've been working on my own scalp and hair serum, so far I have mixed olive oil, sunflower oil and sweet almond oil. I've ordered camellia seed oil, hemp oil, apricot oil and plumaria oil to create my next round of serum.

Let's talk scalp health, which of course goes hand and hand with the health of your hair. Recent studies confirm that natural hair growth is affected by scalp health. Let me share a few tips I've started to incorporate into my daily routine;... *Be gentle, hair is three times more vulnerable when wet. (Don't use a brush) Gently use a wide tooth comb to comb tangles after washing hair. *Healthy shampoo choices, just because it's expensive doesn't mean its better. Watch out for harsh detergent such as Sodium Lauryn Sulfate, Parabens, Sodium Chloride, Synthetic Fragrance, Dimethcone, silicone. *Lower stress. Scientific research has proven that increase in acute and chronic stress affects hair loss. *Scalp massage, gently give yourself a scalp massage when washing your hair. Ps....Scalp massage brushes are aaaammmazzzing!!! *Avoid direct sun on your hair and scalp. It's a no brainer sun isn't great for our skin but we need to protect our hair and scalp as well. *Nutrition. Proper nutrition is so important for body function. Let's feed our scalp and hair what they need to function. Higher protein is really important, a lot of women don't get the required daily protein. Omega's, Biotin, Zinc, Folate, Iron, collagen to name a few vitamins. Do you already incorporate any of the above scalp/hair health tips into your everyday routine?

Would you ever consider skipping shampoo for hair health? For the past few years there has been a "No-Poo" hair craze. What's "No-Poo"? Its not something that happens in your pants! It's not shampooing your hair. I know it sounds gross but I've been doing my research and shampoo from drugstores and salons have a powerful cleaning agent called Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS). SLS is a great cleaning detergent found in laundry soap, dish soap, body wash and shampoo. ... SLS is so powerful it strips away all the natural oils (sebum) that our bodies produce to keep our hair from drying out. Unfortunately all traditional shampoos have Sodium Laurel Sulfate in them to clean our hair and exposing the hair cuticle and making it puffy and frizzy over time. The good news more and more companies are seeking out natural cleaning agents to use on our hair and body. Personally I'm not ready "yet" to cut shampoo out all together but I've been using shampoo with alternative natural cleaners such as Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate which is a derivative of the coconut. I've also been trying super hard to only shampoo my hair once each time I wash it to keep some natural oil production up. Just remember your hair is still getting clean even if its not a full lather Would you jump on the "No-Poo" trend??
