On The Ice sits down with Mark Fleming of Fleming Hockey School Skills Camp to chat about what’s coming up this spring and summer along with how long they haver... been offering skills camps! Then we will site down with Female Head Coach Carly Haggard from Shawnigan Lake School to see what’s in store for the young ladies next season and what the program looks like! Show Brought to you by: Caisse Financial Group Pilot-Mound Hockey-Academy Doaks Bulk Fuels Pure Anada Natural Cosmetics ASTV - Always Free to Watch ASTV Productions Limited - North Americas Fastest Growing Sports Media We've created an outlet. A place where athletes, people, businesses around the world can share their stories and their passion. We allow people to live the dream daily through our TV shows and live (Free to Watch) broadcasts The Fleming Hockey Skills Camp will run from August 16-20 at Millwoods Arena. The primary focus of the camp is on Hockey Skills Development. Every day of the camp we provide two hours of on-ice Power Skating and Hockey Skills; combined with off-ice conditioning and games. The week of hockey concludes with a fun and entertaining hockey game played on the final afternoon. This camp has successfully been operating for 21 years; and this year we will be adding a dedicated Girl's division (Ages 9 - 14). A unique thing about this hockey skills training is it's a family camp. The camp was started up by Jim Fleming in 2000 and initially all of the instructors were immediate family members. The first year of the camp there was a problem with the Zamboni at the arena and we had to cancel Day 1 of the first ever camp! To ensure everyone still received what they were promised we were on the ice for 9 or 10 hours a day to get all of the sessions in. It was a fun and challenging way to start an annual tradition. When we say this is a family camp, it's not your typical family. The Fleming Family has been surrounded by hockey their entire lives, and over the years we have added knowledgeable instructors who fit in well with a fun, skills development focused environment. Our passion for developing youth through hockey skills is a part of our fiber and comes through in a quality on-ice product. Former Oiler Coach Ted Green made the following comments after his grandson attended the camp "this is the best Hockey School I have ever seen." #yegcamps #hockeycamps #goalies #fleminghockeyskillscamp #albertahockey #aaahockey Carly Haggard attended Dartmouth College, where she graduated in 2003 with a major in Sociology and a minor in Psychology. She was a standout player, winning many awards, including, a two time finalist for the prestigious Patty Kazmaeir Award, given to the top player in US College hockey, Rookie of the Year, Ivy league and ECAC Player of the Year and was named to the All American Team. During her college career, she was a two sport athlete, playing both hockey and softball. In 2002, Haggard was named the Dartmouth Female Athlete of the Year and upon graduation she was inducted into the Dartmouth Hall of Fame. Haggard also played for the Canadian Under 22 National Team for three years, where she competed in several international challenges. Prior to retiring from her extensive playing career, Carly played professional hockey in HC Lugano, Switzerland (2007 2009), where she was named the league’s MVP both seasons. Carly led her team to two league championships and two appearances at the European Cup championships. Prior to her playing stint in Europe, Carly played hockey for the Oakville Ice in the National Women’s Hockey League. During her playing time, she was also an assistant coach for the Oakville Junior Hockey Team. After an extensive playing career, Haggard took a job as the assistant coach for the University of Guelph. After two seasons as the assistant coach she took over as head coach for the 2011-2012 season. Haggard is now in her fifth season as the head coach of the Shawnigan Lake School U18 Prep team that competes in the CSSHL. She is also a teacher at the school. #ShawniganLakeSchool #csshl #womeninsport #femalehockey #canadahockey #bcHockey
