TiggerTV: Remembrance Day My hooman Mom and @simply_lizzie101 made me a beautiful shawl today, to commemorate Remembrance Day tomorrow. It has rows of poppies, ...just like in Flanders Fields. It also has a band of purple poppies, to honour all the animals who gave up their lives in the war, to faithfully serve their hoomans. My hooman Mom lived in Northern France for 4 years (that's where she started riding). She also worked as a tour guide at Vimy Ridge for 4 summers. Apparently that whole area is frought with remnants from WW1. Cemeteries, trenches, ammunition that still churns up in the ground every spring and, of course the white chalky cliffs of Dover and Calais. My Mom told me of the horrific conditions the soldiers endured that winter before they captured Vimy Ridge. She said I am Canadian and Vimy is a pivotal piece of our history - the beginning of a nation. I likely wouldn't be here, if not for the battle of Vimy. My grandmother is French. She and her ancestors came from Normandy, and they too suffered in WWII. My hooman ma also told me how many animals served in the war. And how the soldiers would just come in and take horses away from the farms, to serve. I can't imagine if one day some of my family here got called to war, never to be seen again. I have it pretty good here. We need to remember that. And we always need to remember both the hoomans and the animals who sacrificed so much, so that we could be free. Today is tough and we are waging a different type of war, but we will get through this too. -Tigger Balou #remembranceday #armistice #vimy #flandersfields #redpoppies #purplepoppy #peace #carpediem #canada #lookaheadsporthorses #beau_balou_charlie

Winterproofing Your Horse’s Respiratory System- Dr. Samantha Molson The leaves have changed colour and the winter blankets have been taken out of storage- wint...er is undoubtedly on the horizon! We are all aware that winter preparation on the farm is a huge undertaking with an extensive to-do list. Winter often poses additional challenges to horses in terms of exacerbating arthritic conditions and predisposing horses to additional weight loss. Horses stiffen up from lack of turnout and horses are kept in close contact making disease transmission even more likely. But what about your horse’s respiratory system? Most people are familiar with the typical heaves horse. Recurrent Airway Obstruction (RAO) affects a significant percentage of our equine population and usually consists of clinical findings such as elevated respiratory rate and effort, abdominal heave line and dry cough. As veterinarians, we are often called to devise a treatment plan for these horses with the most important aspect being the environmental management of the horse. Often these horses will benefit from extended turnout (or living outside 24/7) and management strategies that will decrease dust and improve ventilation. This often involves transitioning to soaked/steamed hay or haycubes, removing roundbales and changing the type of bedding. So what happens during the long winter months when stable doors are closed and roundbales are present in most paddocks? This is where the Flexineb comes in. Nortev’s Flexineb E2 equine nebulizer generates an aerosolized mist to deliver medication directly to the area of pathology- the lungs. This nebulizer system involves a mask that will fit securely over the horse’s nose and a chamber to aerosolize and deliver medication. I recommend the Flexineb system since it is well tolerated by the patients and backed by scientific research to ensure the medication reaches the area of pathology. Research performed at Hagyard Equine Hospital (Lexington, KY) using nuclear scintigraphy has been able to demonstrate that approximately 71% of the nebulized medication is able to reach the lower airways. There are also a variety of medications which can be utilized with this system making it a worthwhile investment for the owner. Nebulized medications will also significantly reduce the dose or eliminate the need for systemic medications which will decrease the cost for the owner and minimize adverse effects for the horse. Apart from RAO, the Flexineb equine nebulizer can greatly benefit horses with other respiratory conditions. Winter is a common time for equine respiratory viruses and pneumonia which will often require a significant period of time off to ensure adequate recovery. Antibiotics and bronchodilators can be used through the Flexineb system in addition to systemic medications to accelerate the healing process and reduce permanent lung pathology (scarring, fibrosis). Immuno-San is another product which has been shown to have antimicrobial activity and can be utilized prophylactically around competition or long trailer rides to optimize respiratory health and function. A recent study by Dr. Warren (Animal Health Concepts) also showed significant benefits in racehorses with Exercise-Induced Pulmonary Hemorrhage (EIPH) with nebulized treatments. Although competitions are fewer and farther in between during the cold winter months, most riders rely on the winter season to hone their skills and prepare their horses for the upcoming show season. The use of the Flexineb nebulizer prior to training sessions will support respiratory function and ensure that the horse is able to continue to train consistently without requiring extended periods of time off. Strenuous exercise in cold weather (-5 degrees) has also been shown to induce lower airway inflammation which can significantly alter training sessions during these colder months. Nebulizing with products such as saline and essential oils prior to exercise will also encourage clearance of mucous during training sessions. I recommend the Flexineb equine nebulizer for horses with a variety of different respiratory conditions especially during the winter when the environment management is not always optimal. Nebulized treatments can be used both prophylactically and for treating or managing underlying respiratory conditions. It is always recommended to consult your regular veterinarian to determine the most appropriate treatment protocol for your horse and withdrawal regulations for your geographical area. See more

Such an important part of the Flexineb system - the Aerosol Holding Chamber - this has 3 main functions holds the medication cup & holds the aerosol until th...e horse is able to inhale it by containing the aerosol, in an enclosed system, it helps to prevent the aerosol particle size getting so large it cannot be inhaled it gives you a visual aid to see that your horse is inhaling efficiently as when they inhale - the held aerosol disappears!! #flexineb #teamflexineb #flexinebworldwide #function #reasonsforeverything #equinnenebuliser

Introducing the E3 controller The Flexineb E3 has three power levels, 1,2 and 3 Default is power level 1 To change the power level @ start-up press the BLACK BUTTON when the LED is flashing to change to level 2 or 3 Once the LED stops flashing the power level is set and cannot be changed unless you power off and turn on again... Depending on the solution and volume you are nebulizing. follow the guidelines below on power level selection using a Standard Medication Cup Use level 1 for low viscosity (watery) and small volume dose size (~3-5mls) medications. Use level 2 for low viscosity and high volume dose size (10-30mls) solutions such as saline solution 0.9% Use level 3 for high viscosity medications. A GREEN label medication cup should only be used for very high viscosity difficult to nebulize solutions, test using a Standard Cup first @ level 3 before moving to a Green Cup Note that faster delivery is not better and can lead to wastage in the aerosol chamber and mask See more

Flexineb is a portable equine nebulizer trusted by equine professionals around the world for fast, safe and effective transfer of medication for respiratory conditions in horses. It operates silently and without the inconvenience of cumbersome hoses and electrical cords. Nebulization is a respiratory management technique in which tiny spherical droplets of aerosolized medication are generated and inhaled by the patient. Why use a Nebulizer?... A nebulizer device enables the horse owner to easily administer care to their horses airways and lungs. The device incorporates a mask that fits on the nose and a technological means of generating a fine mist. Old style technologies are based on a compressor which plug into the mains supply. Newer technologies are ultrasonic devices, while the most up-to-date devices (e.g. Flexineb E3) incorporate a vibrating piezo component. Each of these technologies can generate the fine mist which ensures the mist goes directly into the airways and ultimately the lungs. https://flexineb.com/?setCurrencyId=1
