And diving heals all three: mind, body, spirit.
And we have absolutely no plans of ever stopping. We will be diving until...well, forever and ever! Join our growing family of beginner to advanced divers - everyone is welcome. Sign up here, folks: https://floatnflag.com/courses/
Some good news for the day. Nice to see new discoveries still happening. Also makes us want to travel and dive even more. One day we will all be able to travel again - we have high hopes! https://www.sportdiver.com/scientists-find-coral-reef-talle
Is there anything else as FUN as diving?? Nope. Sign up for our refresher courses: https://floatnflag.com/reactivate-scuba-refresher/
What are the 3 things you miss most about diving in the sea?
Is anyone feeling colourful today? Check out these limited-edition Carbon Fibre Halcyon backplates. Available in Small and Standard sizing in Hot pink & Fluorescent Green. The cost is $499.00 CDN and is just for the backplate (the straps are shown in the photo but are not included in that cost). Email [email protected] and we can get you one. Which colour do you like the best?
And when we have to say it - we really don't want to! No one wants to call a dive!
What does it mean to, TO LIVE?? We live and breathe diving but not everyone does. What gets you motivated?
Another fantastic Thanksgiving Turkey Drift Dive was hag by the FNF crew as 20 of us hit the roaring rapids at the train bridge for the first of 2 great dives. Thanks to the gang from London for making the trip and joining us. A big shout out to all our regular divers this summer, and the same to the newer folks who joined the FNF crew this year. And of course, the biggest thanks goes to Martin Smith for organizing these so well this COVID CRAZY summer!!
While 2020 will go down as one of the worst in recent history, the team at Float N’ Flag wants all of you to know we are thankful for each and every one of you. Your loyalty, support in tough times, willingness to help and boundless contributions to our amazing community are all things that YOU have done. Nothing we could have made. So in 2020, we have diving in common. We have each other. In a year that could have been much worse, that’s enough to be thankful for! Blessings to everyone, and Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Halloween everyone! Suit up, chill, eat candy, and watch scary movies - sounds like a good plan! Take a pic, while you're at it.
This list is endless, we know but if there was ONE thing that you love most about it - which one would it be?
Are you signed up for the Open Water Diver course on Nov 27. ? If not what are you waiting for? With e-learning, you can start your class online today and then do the pool work with us as your schedule allows. https://floatnflag.com/learn-to-scuba-dive/
Nothing much else to say here. That's it and that's all!
When the going gets tough and there have been many of those days this year. Just close your eyes and remember all the wonderful moments underwater. You're welcome.
Great news for those travelers wishing to get somewhere soon. Email us at [email protected] if you want to be added to the YES, I need to go diving somewhere warm once the quarantine is lifted and we can reach out to you with more info. https://toronto.ctvnews.ca//ontario-premier-open-to-replac
Join us for one of our last dives of the year. We're set for Sept 26-27. We'll keep you posted if we open up any for October. https://floatnflag.com/drive-n-dive/
We do not know about you - but we all hope to be diving as long as this diver - check this out! https://www.scubadiving.com/100-year-old-becomes-worlds-old
How have you been getting over your scuba diving withdrawal? Many of you have joined us on the local dives but the great blue sea does have something special.
Yup and to the lakes, to the oceans, to heated pools, and when we get desperate in a bathtub!!!
Calling all Float N' Flag Dive Sisters - we had an amazing event in July for PADI's Women's' day and we created a t-shirt as part of the prize for the Scavenger hunt participants. We wanted all of our Dive Sisters to have a chance to get a shirt as well. Check these images out and if you want one, they are $35.00 each (including taxes). Please email [email protected] with your size and preference (Short sleeve/Sleeves and Scoop or Vneck) - order cut off is October 9th. This will be so cool to have all of the FNF Dive Sisters wearing these everywhere!
Awesome day of Diving with great friends today in Tobermory. Winds were up a bit, but water temp on Niagara II and Caroline Rose was 53 degrees. Sadly we missed out on the Arabia as the mooring was gone when we arrived. Winds looking to be 35 from the south tomorrow, so we’ll have an extra beverage tonight and not worry about going to bed early.
It's important to maintain your gear on a regular basis or update. We are taking appointments for our shop and for your maintenance, too. https://floatnflag.com/appointments/
Hello October! Yeah, yeah the leaves are beautiful but the reef is calling my name! When was the last time you went diving (in international waters)?
It pretty much sums up our life requirements. What else would you add to this phrase?
Still lots of time to dive! We have organized local diving trips for all of you divers! Click on this page to get a better idea of dates and locations. https://floatnflag.com/local-dive-registration-form/
Attention! The shop will be closed at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, Oct. 16th through Tuesday @noon). We are traveling to Tobermory for the "Shutdown Weekend". We hope everyone has a great weekend and keeps an eye on Facebook for some great photos! For those divers going diving make sure you pick up your gear before 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
What an AWESOME day for a couple of drift dives with an extraordinary group of staff and students! While the viz was only 5-10 feet, the current was fast and you could see the smiles of excitement as we flew down the river. Congrats to Amber, Rodney, Asia, Yogi, Ross, Hugo, Trevor and Sarah for earning your PADI Drift Diver certification. Thanks to my co-lead Ralph and Rory, Dan and Bruce for being incredible guides today!! #DriftDiver #NiagaraRiver #FloatNFlag #NumberOneDiveShop #PADI #AWARE #LoveSharks
What a great weekend we just had at Float N’ Flag. While the local season is starting to wind down, its not over yet. This past weekend was a super busy one with a group up diving the Niagara River, another group of 14 on the Drive N’ Dive, an Advanced Open Water course and 7 Divemasters more or less wrapping up their Covid course with a deep dive in Wiarton. Well done everyone!!
Ever wondered how it feels like to breathe underwater for over 10 seconds? Join us as we teach you this and also how to get comfortable wearing all the scuba equipment. https://floatnflag.com/discover-scuba-diving/
Toby Takeover 2 was another fantastic weekend in the Great White North. Thanks to Kelly and her great staff at Divers Den, a good time was had by all. Sunday proved to be a better diving day for Team Mamie, and nobody got sick!! We did 4 great dives, and while home a bit late, it was worth it. Stay tuned for registration instructions for Takeover 2021!!
As many of you know, we are obsessed and will be until the day we leave this earth. If you could, how many times a year would you go diving?
A huge congratulations to our 10 new RESCUE DIVERS! They endured small class sizes for EFR and O2 provider, incredible instructors, amazing assistants and a couple great days at Gullivers practicing rescues, skills and critical thinking skills. They topped it off with some Hollywood worthy volunteers for the scenarios day where they navigated the waters, literally and figuratively, to hone their reaction times and critical thinking skills. Each one of the 10 of you earned this certification. Thanks for being AMAZING STUDENTS. Thanks also to Paul Cloutier and Jenn Kerr for mentoring these guys through the course. #RescueDiver #BestDiveStaff #AmazingStudents #NumberOneDiveShop #LoveSharks #ProjectAware #CovidClass2020
What another great night in Tobermory. Winds cut our day rather short, but we had an awesome day Friday and a little diving this morning for the Jr Advanced boat. Our BBQ at the Coach House Inn was a real hit, and we sat around while Kristen Anderson serenaded is with amazing guitar music. Many more great memories!!
If you have an inkling to meet them, we would be more than happy to introduce you. They are waiting! C'mon, what else do you have to do in your four walls?! Diving is the best escape. https://floatnflag.com/courses/
Happy Womens Equality Day The right to vote, the cornerstone of democracy, belongs to all citizens but this wasnt always the case. Until recently, most countries denied voting rights to half of their population: women. To claim their voice, women began agitating for the right to vote in the early 19th century. In the U.S., decisions about who could vote were left up to the states. The 19th Amendment, ratified in 1920, ensures voting rights for everyone regardless of gende...r. Today, Womens Equality Day celebrates the achievements of womens rights activists and reminds us of the unique daily struggles that women face. We especially want to do a "Shout OUT" to our female divers on this day. Over the past 5 years, our numbers are catching up to the males. Pretty soon, we may even have more female divers than male divers - GO, TEAM. We are all special in the Float N' Flag Community and wanted to recognize that today.
What do you ladies and gents miss most of the sea or ocean?
With 3 Adventure dives under their belt, this group of 10 advanced students are super excited to be drifting the upper Niagara today! And its off to Wiarton for the deep dive tomorrow and well have 10 new Advanced Open Water divers in the FNF community! Congrats to everyone!!
Check out all the courses we've set up for you, now that we are open again. There are some protocols to follow but we've made it easier for you, too. https://floatnflag.com/courses/
What an incredible night last night with the FNF community as we came together for our annual Tobermory Takeover BBQ. A huge thanks the the FNF staff that donned their Green shirts and volunteered to help serve everyone to ensure your safety. We so appreciate all you do for our community. You made it a truly special evening!! Thanks also to Marty & Phil for supplying the musical entertainment. Superstars!! Also, thanks to Tammy and her team for organizing all the food, and for Martin for managing the grill, and Elaine for doing the dishes. What a great show of community spirit. Thanks for everyone for being great participants and respecting the COVID safety protocols. You rock!!
What started as a rainy morning led to a 1 hour delay in our start time. As predicted, the rain stopped for loading the boats and its been a gorgeous day on the water so far. Incredible way to end an incredible Tobermory Takeover. Thanks to all those who participated in this years event. And thanks to everyone for respecting all the safety and Covid rules. You guys rock
In fine Covid Style, we safely took our annual photos a little more spread out this year, but no less meaningful!! Off to a great start!! First dives done and onto number 2. #TobyTakeover #AWARE #NumberOneDiveShop #LoveSharks #OntarioDiving #PADI
And we begin with a gorgeous morning dive on the Niagara II. The water is clear and there is a definite thermocline. Top water is 70 degrees! Let the diving begin!!
Float N Flag North is now open! Let the fun begin.
And so begins our annual pilgrimage to Tobermory for the Tobermory Takeover weekend. With new Covid procedures in place, we split our weekend into two weekends. It took three trips to Costco, LCBO and a giant new 16 trailer, we still barely had enough space to squeeze everything in. Going to be an epic weekend. Looking forward to diving with everyone this weekend. Friends, food and so much fun!
Duh! We know it's a no-brainer but we gotta keep reminding ourselves of it.
Raise your hands if you'd rather be doing this RIGHT NOW!! We thought so!
Every single person here at FNF can concur with this statement. We have opened up courses and local diving trips, just for you. Happy Holiday Monday! https://floatnflag.com/appointments/
Our local dives are based in Ontario but we are not far from the rest of you. Make it a long weekend in our province, if you will. We have plenty of dates available: https://floatnflag.com/local-dive-registration-form/
This is a perfect time to make sure your gear is in working order. Book an appointment with us if you need upgrades or cleaning. https://floatnflag.com/appointments/
How many of you have seen this big a starfish? Any pics to share with us? We do love the beauty of our seas/oceans!
Did You Know? Coral symbolizes significant and profound changes in the works. These changes are a direct result of grounding yourself in the reality you are now experiencing. Hmmm.... a little too close to home!
Be like all of our marine friends and live with a mindset that is FREE and we will go far!
What a wonderful way to spend Padi's Women's' day last Saturday - we went started the day with a dive at Gullivers' lake. You could hear everyone's excitement to go diving (for some it was the first dive of the season). While underwater we were all challenged to a scavenger hunt and the viz only added to the challenge. After the dive, many women hopped over to the Snyders for an afternoon of food, fun, and some Duck therapy. We would hazard a guess that we were the only Women...'s' dive day divers that had Duck therapy! For all of those women who submitted your answers to the Scavenger hunt, you win a custom PADI/FNF Women's Dive day t-shirt, and now for the moment you are all waiting for - the diver that gets to pick the colour of the t-shirt is... Addi Pump. Yes, George pooped on your entry, you are the lucky winner! For those women that did not submit a scavenger hunt paper but would love a t-shirt, keep your eyes out for a notice in the newsletter and you can order one. We thank everyone for participating and especially Jenn Brown for the amazing idea. Thank you also to the FNF female staff for pulling this off. This was so much fun. This will definitely become a yearly tradition! You will catch a glimpse of the above water activities, below water shots to come. See more
