Cranberry Kombucha Holiday Delight Now that the holidays are upon us, let’s put a festive spin on a healthy refreshing holiday cocktail (or non-alcoholic mocktail) to serve to your holiday visitors. Get the gut healthy healing powers of probiotic ginger Kombucha and combine with the flavours of a tart cranberry grape juice blend with or without gin. This cocktail is refreshing and has lots of flavour without be...ing too tart. Ingredients: 1 oz. gin 2 oz. ginger Kombucha 4 oz. Cranberry grape juice blend Crushed ice Cranberries for garnish Instructions: Using a tall glass, fill with some crushed ice. Add the gin, or if not, you can omit it if you prefer a mocktail. Then add the ginger Kombucha and the cranberry grape juice blend. Give it a stir. To top if off, you can toss a few cranberries into your drink and add a long sprig of fresh Rosemary to give it a holiday touch. Serve this holiday cocktail to your guests as I’m sure they’ll enjoy the tangy refreshing taste! Florence Caie, Holistic Nutritionist, Cert. Live Blood Cell Analyst, Cert. Colon Therapist can be reached at The Miranda Naturopathic Clinic, Ajax or at The Village Pharmacy, Port Credit.

On a High Protein Diet and Getting Constipated? By Florence Caie, CNP -Cert. Nutritionist and Cert. Colon Therapist One of my clients an extremely fit bootcamp and personal trainer came for a series of colonics because of constant constipation. In the past she always had an enormous amount of energy but now felt her energy wasn’t as great as constipation wasn’t making her feel her best. When I asked her if she was taking lots of small protein meals throughout the day and ...she said yes I immediately thought of her not producing enough hydrochloric acid (HCL) to help with her digestion. The stomach produces hydrochloric acid to help digest food and also kill many potentially harmful bugs that could be in it. However, if HCL levels aren’t strong enough then there will be less digestive enzymes secreted and harder for food to be broken down leading to poor absorption of nutrients and delay in emptying of the stomach, which can lead to a range of uncomfortable digestive symptoms including constipation. Here are some easy ways to make sure you are breaking down your foods to give you better digestion, absorption and transmission of your food and nutrients: 1. Avoid drinking liquids with your meal, especially cold water. 2. Combine 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (Bragg’s) in a glass of lukewarm water 25 minutes before a protein meal. Do not take it before a snack. Apple cider vinegar manufactures hydrochloric acid and is commonly used to aid digestion. 3. Take a hydrochloric acid capsule at the beginning of a protein meal. Some people need more than 1 capsule at a meal but I would advise seeking a health care practitioner such as myself to determine your optimal dosage. Choose either the supplement or the apple cider vinegar. Once my client started taking hydrochloric acid supplements at the start of each of her many small protein meals her digestion improved to the point where her constipation issues were resolved. Don’t suffer digestive distress or constipation. To find out if you are low in hydrochloric acid production, or to get a gentle colonic or a package of colonics, or to schedule a FREE Meet and Greet appointment with Florence Caie, Nutritionist and Cert.
