With mutual friends and colleagues, we met in Manitoba as pupils of our professions before moving to Alberta as heath care providers. Graduation day ... summer of 2006 Dr. Wong keenly recalls graduating with his fellow University of Manitoba colleagues in May of 2006. After an undergraduate study at University of Alberta, he was accepted to a number of dental schools across Canada before selecting U of M to study dentistry. FLOSS Dentistry is a labour of love. Over 10 years ago, Dr. Wong dreamt of a facility that, in collaboration with his wife and her Optometry office, could provide high end service to families needing both dental and eye care in one location. Fast forward and that dream became a reality when space was signed, designs were made, and ground broken. Here, Dr. Wong is using a template of a dental chair to gauge the exact dimensions for ergonomics and space layout in each operatory.... The troughing of concrete to facilitate this detail made the decision VERY important as it could not be moved easily after the fact. In a galaxy far far away The word FLOSS was likely first derived from the Old French word flosch, which meant down, or a pile of velvet. Then, it moved into the Modern French word soie floche, which was a floss silk. One of the earliest iterations of modern day dental FLOSS was introduced in 1815 when a New Orleans dentist encouraged his patients to floss with a waxed silken thread after each visit. This waxed silken thread was readily available to consumers as tailoring t...hread. During the height of World War II, the price for silk skyrocketed. As the price of silk soared, so too did the price for waxed silken dental floss, so silk was replaced with nylon. The idea to replace silk with nylon came from a dentist by the name of Dr. Charles Bass, often referred to as the father of preventative dentistry. Dr. Bass earned this name because of his insistence upon brushing twice per day and flossing once per day. See. Love.
