If you're applying for jobs online - you need to know the what, why, and how of Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). What? ATS = HR Software that streamlines hiring by scanning resumes & matching with job descriptions.... Why? The VAST majority of companies require you to apply via an online job application, which means... your resume will go through an ATS. How? Remember these 3 Things to Know: Keep it Simple, Customize, & Include Keywords... Learn more via my latest blog post The ATS-Friendly Resume Guide: https://loom.ly/oIZ-z_A

How many pages should my resume be? Such a common question - here are a few guidelines to keep in mind: If you're a new grad or have less than 2-3 years of experience - stick to 1 page. If you have 3+ years of experience - go with 2 pages. Try for 2 pages max unless you have extensive education + experience that just won't fit (or are writing an academic CV)!... #resumes #jobsearch #resumewriter

Have you ever experienced Impostor Syndrome? It's such a terrible feeling to have (Trust me - I've been there!!) and so difficult to know how to DEAL with it and start feeling confident about our skills (as we should!) Recognize Your Feelings. What specifically are you doubting about yourself? Are you feeling inadequate about your skills, abilities, or knowledge in a specific area? Having clarity on what exactly you're feeling inadequate about can help you develop a pl...an to overcome it! Accept & Be Kind To Yourself. It's okay to feel inadequate and experience self-doubt. Don't beat yourself up about it - we all experience uncertainty when we're learning and growing. Take Action. Now that you know what you're feeling doubt/uncertainty about, why not do something to build your confidence in that area? You can learn tons of stuff for free online (just search on youtube or linkedin!), read a book, enroll in a course, or practice your skills. #tiptuesday #impostorsyndrome

When applying for jobs online, does it feel like you're sending your resume into a black hole? Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) can be the cause! How to avoid this?... Emphasize relevant keywords. Review job postings you want to apply for and identify relevant terms that are consistently mentioned, so you can include them in your resume. Include a skills section. This is a way to make sure you include relevant keywords in your resume, especially if these terms don't fit into your work experience. This section should be in the top third of your resume so it's prominent! Tailor the resume for each job. Job descriptions can vary from job to job, so if you notice any differences, be sure to tweak the resume to ensure that it's a fit! Keep it simple. Stylistic elements such as columns, text boxes, lines, graphics, and tables can be incompatible with certain ATS, so use a format that's ATS compatible. #resume #jobsearch #jobapplication

Impostor Syndrome, or the idea you've only succeeded due to luck, and not because of your talent or qualifications, affects most of us at some point. Remember, it's normal to feel self-doubt. What's not normal is letting that doubt control your actions. #impostorsyndrome #impostor #selfdoubt

If you aren't currently working, I understand that the job search can be even more stressful. To help out, this week I want to share tips for managing the dreaded employment gap. (By the way, it's not as scary as it sounds!) Remember, Things Are a Little Crazy Right Now. Ummm... we're living through a pandemic?!? If there's ever a year to have an employment gap, it's probably going to be 2020. Keep this in mind (even though it's stressful)! Fill Your Employment G...ap With Activities. You may not have been working, but that doesn’t mean you haven’t been doing anything. Have you been doing a bit of consulting work, volunteering, taking care of family, or enrolled in online courses? Consider how these activities might help fill your gap during an interview or serve as a positive addition to your resume or cover letter. Start Upgrading Your Skills or Volunteering. If you haven’t been busy with activities and you’ve just been taking time off - that’s fine too. But, why don’t you get started on volunteering or enrolling in a class now? This will help you add some relevant content to your resume while also helping you update your skills. #resume #jobsearch #jobs #career
