A little horse that was bought for just $1000.00 just won the Kentucky Derby. He didn’t know he was too small and too inexpensive. He just wasn’t going to let another horse pass him. What a heart of a winner ! Congratulations to Medina Spirit.

This is fantastic news!!

**Public service announcement** Is your horse fit enough to be travelling the distances you’re asking them to travel? And are they injury free too? Have you eve...r wondered how much work is required on the horses behalf when being transported around in the back of a Horsebox or trailer? Please pay very close attention to this video as I think it’s a fantastic demonstration of how much a horse uses its stabiliser muscles whilst being transported in a herringbone position in a horsebox. If we think about it the horse in this video is on an A-road so is working pretty hard to stabilise itself from falling over. This was only a small trip (10 mins max) and you can see the horses stabiliser muscles working like crazy. Just think if we were on these types of roads for 30 mins solid, going around corners, up and down hills, slowing down, accelerating etc the horses stabiliser muscles will be required for virtually the whole 30 mins non stop. Just imagine being stuck on a treadmill and you can’t get off until someone stops the machine for you, my worst nightmare! Realistically you’d build up with the progressions, starting off small and then increasing the time spent on there each week. Now after thinking about it that way, can we understand why horses could potentially not want to load back up onto the Horsebox or trailer at a show (it’s travelled, and then been ridden). So if you’re wondering why it’s fine at home but not at a show, physical fitness could be one of the issues.... Just a little food for thought guys Slow and steady always wins the race.... ***Edit......hate to have to do this but due to the absolutely ridiculous comments made from some very nasty, inconsiderate people who had nothing better to do than to sit behind their laptops & computer screens judging, I thought I’d provide an elaboration to the above post Please remember this is someone’s horse/pony so please consider this when making comments...... *For those who haven’t yet read the post correctly or misinterpreted it, the purpose of this post is to raise awareness of the physical exertion that a horse may go through when travelling. And for those who say ‘I have a camera in the back, and mine doesn’t move at all’ - it’s delusional to think it’s not hard work for them. Plus it’s a pretty ridiculous claim as your cameras are not in the position in this video, and will not be capturing this angle. The specifics..... *The horse is travelling in a herringbone position in a Horsebox, NOT a trailer! Therefore is travelling in a sideward/diagonal position, meaning their stability will be determined by the stength in their stabiliser muscles as the forces will generally be applied to the side of them. *The horse has been checked by vets, physios, farriers, dentists and has a full clean bill of health, and her ridden work is fab. *The Horsebox is in a fabulous condition and every inch of it has recently been checked, and serviced, including but not limited to tyres, flooring, brakes etc.... *The driver was an extremely considerate driver, as we were barely over 30mph and gave plenty of time for braking, acceleration etc. The clip is very short so this is just a snippet of the journey. *The main reason for myself going out to this horse was because she was trying to lay down in the Horsebox, which was caused by the partitions being too close together. This was solved by providing the horse with extra room - hence widening the partitions, providing space for her to have a wider stance which lowers her centre of gravity. Not to mention she loads up perfectly every time, without hesitation. Sorry for such a long post guys, some of you have appreciated the awareness and update, and will take this into consideration when training your horses & ponies in the future which is fantastic, whilst some.....yep!

To help you understand what the horse feels when you sit crookedly in the saddle "Load a wheelbarrow heavily to one side as in the center illustration. Now pu...sh the wheelbarrow, and feel how it pulls to the weighted side and how you are forced to lean in that direction to compensate. That’s how your horse feels when you sit unevenly in the saddle, as shown in the left image. When you sit evenly, the horse will be centered and balanced as shown in the illustration on the right." I am a lesson horse. I am a horse that isn’t as recognized as the top hunter jumpers, the best western pleasure horse, or the 1D barrel horse, I am a lesson ho...rse. I am the backbone of the foundation to do all of those things. I am a lesson horse. I am not loved by one person. I am loved by several people. I don’t have my person, I have my people. I am a lesson horse. I will teach your child and yourself more than just to ride. I will bring your child out of their shell. I will teach your child about life. I will be yours and their shoulder to cry on. I am a lesson horse. I will bring my family the joy of teaching kids. I will bring my families business growth. I am so loved by my family, even if they don’t express it everyday. My family allows others to show me love and enjoy me. I am a lesson horse. At the end of your childs’ journey on a lesson horse, they will out grow me. They will find one that jumps higher, a horse that is show quality, a horse much faster than me. But, I will never outgrow being a lesson horse. I will be the one that loved your child and helped your child grow into the rider and person they are. I am a lesson horse. At the end of my time as a lesson horse; I will be covered in grey hair. Each grey hair came from each hour I spent as a lesson horse. I will be in a field of green grass, I will be taken care of as I was when I was a lesson horse. I will watch your child from across the pasture love her new horse. But, I will love your child more than any horse can. I will be the backbone of the business, the family, and your child. Don’t forget about me, I am a lesson horse. I am a lesson horse. *words stolen from a friend*
