Adopt! Let an adult bird CHOOSE YOU!

Flying Hope Companion Bird Rescue&Re-home 16.05.2021

While I don't support breeding (excepting for conservation) due to overpopulation and so many birds already needing homes, there are other important reasons spe...cifically relating to the birds' own wellbeing. I see a lot of people getting excited when they see their birds bonding, and are quick to add a nest box to the cage. While I totally understand the appeal of this experience (baby birds are adorable!), it's really important to take the following into account. - Is your female old enough and in good health? Breeding can be extremely dangerous and potentially fatal for underaged/underdeveloped birds. Female budgies should be at least a year old. Complications are more likely if birds aren't healthy or are lacking vital nutrients. - Do your birds eat a balanced and proper diet? This one can't be overstressed. Egg production depletes nutrients so birds need to have a plentiful supply before they even begin the cycle. Calcium is particularly important. - Are your birds related? If they've come from the same breeder or pet shop, chances are they might be. Inbreeding can cause massive problems for birds just like in humans and other animals. - Do you have an avian vet on hand in case of emergency? Breeding can have many complications for both parents and babies, including egg binding and splayed legs (a common issue with chicks) amongst many other things. If you aren't able to treat this or get help, don't attempt breeding. - Can you afford a vet if required? This is different to getting an animal in general. It is simply irresponsible to intentionally breed (or allow breeding) if you can't afford potentially necessary vet care. - Are able to care for babies if parents abandon them? This would require a set up which you'd need space for: safe temperature -controlled enclosure, regular feedings using the correct method and food - for any number of the babies. All this should be organised and ready before you even start. - Do you have good homes prepared for potentially 6-8 babies? Do you have people that you trust to take good care for the life of these birds? Selling online and in classifieds can be dangerous; it can be hard to know exactly where your bird would be going, if the buyer is being honest about the environment and their intentions (I.e. Seeking a pet when they're planning to breed or flip - sell for profit). If you're not sure, don't risk it.

FRANKFORD PEOPLE - Please Keep and eye out for Deku, he is lost and very much missed

Flying Hope Companion Bird Rescue&Re-home 05.05.2021

Meet Sid, SID HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!! he is a DNA certified male Senegal looking for a new home. He is 12 yrs old. Sid's was loved in his previous family, but he was very protective of his Mom, to the point where he wasn't very nice to his Dad. So we are looking for a home where the primary care giver is a female. Sid is nervous right now, so we haven't heard him talk, but we are told he likes to have "conversations" with his people. He likes to talk alot, so he isn't a good choice for someone in an apartment. He is hand tame, but it might take some time for him to trust you and become comfortable. He comes with his cage and toys. If you feel you can give Sid the home he needs, please private message us - don't post here, we don't want to miss you.

This dynamic duo are Cheerio & Ephram - they are both Indian Ring Necks. Cheerio is a yellow female around 20 yrs old, and Ephram is a green male around 18 yrs old. They both came from another rescue that needed to shut down expectantly. Cheerio is hand tame, but will need some work & time to trust you. She needs to feel comfortable before she will warm up to you. Ephram is terrified of the world, but not aggressive. We aren't sure if he will ever be able to be handled, but that doesn't mean he is less deserving of a loving home. THESE 2 HAVE BEEN ADOPTED!!! While they aren't necessarily bonded, we would love to see them adopted together, and preference will be given to anyone wanting both of them. If you feel you can give them the home they need, please private message us - don't post here, we don't want to miss you.

Out of the goodness of people's hearts, these 2 pair HAVE BEEN ADOPTED!!! Thank you everyone for your interest and opening your hearts. There are times in rescue that make us shake our head, then there are times that make us angry. These 4 Pionus parrots have arrived at Flying Hope. They are 28yrs old, and not in good shape. They are 2 breeding pairs who have been dis-guarded becasue they don't produce anymore. Pionus' live around 30 years, so these couples are in their golden... years......and instead of being rewarded for their years of service, they have been thrown out. They came in rusty cages with no toys. We don't think they have had much human touch. They have no names. And even despite all this, they aren't nasty......they are just terrified. We did pet one of the males when his back was to us......probably the first kind touch he has ever had. They don't deserve this, they are living beings. We don't post birds during our holiday shut down, but this is a very special case. We are hoping there are some kind hearted souls out there who will step up and give these poor creatures a place to roost. There is no guarantee how long they will live, they haven't had a good life. But even if it is a week, a month, or a few years, they deserve a place where they can get one on one attention, be loved, and know what it is like to be a member of a family. They must be adopted in pairs, but the pairs can be separated. There will be a nominal adoption fee, we need to know that you are serious about their care. If you have it in your heart to give these beautiful birds a home, please private message us - don't post here, we don't want to miss you.

What I've learned having a parrot is like having small children. 1. I now own a dustbuster. 2. I bought baby wipes. 3. I have to lock drawers. 4. I rotate wh...ere I hide the treats. 5. I check my shirt for unusual stains before going out. 6. Someone's always watching me. 7. I just want to nap. 8. You have food. Eat what I gave you. 9. Stop throwing your vegetables on the floor. 10. Why are you wet? 11. No, you can't help vacuum right now. What have you learned? See more

LESSON FOR THE DAY & A BIRD UPDATE - Always place injured birds that can not stand up by themselves in a "doughnut" and place them in a box. Do not give them an...y food or water. Today's intake - a Northern Mockingbird. It was found on the ground last night and was laying on its back. The person did put the bird in a box but it could not stand and was left laying on its side. The finder also dripped some water down the bird's mouth before calling for help. While on the phone, I had them make a nice "doughnut" for the bird so it could be in an upright natural position. After they did that they said the bird looked more comfortable and alert. Unfortunately the mocker came in "mouth breathing." It is hard to say if the mouth breathing is from being aspirated when it was given water or if it was from the impact. SO - Please keep birds supported upright in a box (as shown in the photo below) not laying on their side. Birds have air sacs along the sides of their body that expand and contract when the the bird breathes. Injured birds should be gently supported so air sacs can expand and contract and the bird can breathe easily. Do not try to give any food or water - unless you are instructed otherwise by your rehabber. You can very easily aspirate an injured bird and that alone can kill a bird. Help save a bird, feel free to share. #helpwildbirds See more

JOJO IS ADOPTED!! The last bird we are posting for adoption today, (well, re-posting) is JoJo. We put him up on our page a few weeks ago, but no one has messaged us about him, so we're giving it another try. JoJo is less than a year old, and makes us laugh everyday. He was surrendered to us due to his nipping. He is people friendly, but not hand tame. He is a funny dude, and even with his nipping, he deserves a home of his own with someone who understands birds. He is very young, so he is trainable. He comes with his cage and toys. If you think you can give JoJo a new home, please message us - don't post here - we don't want to miss it.

ADOPTED!!! We have another pair of love birds looking for a new home, this is Peaches and Blue. They are 5 and 7 yrs old. They were surrendered becasue the family was unable to keep them. They are extremely scared right now, poor things. We feel that once they get settled in a new home, with less hustle & bustle, they will calm down. They come with their cage and toys. If you want to give these very deserving birds a new home, please message us - don't post here - we don't want to miss it.

ADOPTED!!!.This handsome dude is Bailey. He is a 5 yr old Senegal parrot. He was surrendered to Flying Hope about 5 months ago due to his behavioral issues, and his care giver was having terrible lung issues. He may look abit different than other Senegal's you have seen - he used to pluck, and his feathers grew back a different color. We have worked very hard with him since his arrival; when he first came, you couldn't go anywhere near his cage without him freaking out. We to...ok it slow, and with time & patience, he will now step up on a perch....but on his terms. Caution is still needed with Bailey, but are coming to know his signs. We feel that he is ready for the next step, a home of his own, where he can get more one on one training. His cage has a broken clip on the food door, so if you think you can fix it, you can have it. If not, he will need a proper sized cage. If you feel you might be the right home for Bailey, please message us - don't post here, we don't want to miss it. He needs someone with bird experience to help him grow into the bird we know he could be See more

With some time, love and patience, we feel they will come out of their shells. They come with their cage and toys. Flying Hope Companion Bird Rescue&Re-home 10.04.2020

Good Morning everyone, Sonyia here, I am a volunteer at Flying Hope. Today is a very sad day for us, and especially Donna.....her beloved Billy has gone to The Bridge today. He was his comical self on Saturday....whistling at me while I cleaned cages, and demanding a scritch on his head. Before I left, he had a seizure. He seemed to come out of it fine, but was not himself. A trip to the vet discovered that he had a tumor, and there was nothing to be done. He went home with p...ain meds, and died peacefully in Donnas arms this morning. We all have birds that steals our heart, and Bill was that for Donna. I am asking for some patience as she deals with this tragedy.....messages and emails wont be answered as quickly as they usually are. We have some birds ready for adoption, but we wont be posting them right now Fly Free Billy, and Godspeed to The Bridge......give Lola a peck for us

DID YOU KNOW? Parrots dont have vocal cords like humans. Instead of pushing air over vocal cords to create sound, parrots and many other species of birds inclu...ding corvids and starlings can mimic sounds by using the muscles in their throat to direct airflow over the trachea (or windpipe) in an organ called the syrinx. They make different sounds by changing the depth and shape of the trachea...how cool is that? See more

ADOPTED!! Harley is our newest bird at Flying Hope. He was surrendered due to no fault of his own, and is looking for a new place to roost. He is 4 year old green cheeked conure. He is hand tame, once he gets to know you. He can fly, but prefers to walk....it is quite funny. Harley LOVES to eat, he dives into his bowl with great enthusiasm. He enjoys lots of fresh veggies & fruit, along with his seed. He comes a large cage & toys, and a travel cage. If you would like to give him a new home, please private message us - NO NOT post here....we dont want to miss it

Flying Hope Companion Bird Rescue&Re-home 06.11.2019

ADOPTED!!! Baby is another poor soul that was involved with the emergency intake - she was in a way too small cage, with no toys or perches.....she was just clinging to the side, it broke our heart. Baby is 15 year old, DNAd female quaker. She is the sweetest thing. We can tell she hasnt been handled much, we had to pick her up to change/clean her cage, and while she was scared, she didnt try to bite us. She is very friendly and chatty, and with some work, she will learn to trust you, and become a wonderful family member. She is a great eater, and loves her fresh veggie & fruits, along with her seeds. She comes with a cage, (although it isnt the best one for her - she will need a bigger one), and toys. If you think you can give Baby a new lease on life, please private message us - NO NOT post here, we dont want to miss it

Flying Hope Companion Bird Rescue&Re-home 27.10.2019

ADOPTED!! These 2 cuties were part of the emergency intake we did a few weeks ago. They are male English budgies, both 3 years old. They came with no names . They are both very nervous, and will need lots of love and patience. We are feeding them lots of fresh veggies with their seed. They come with their cage, but really should be in something abit bigger. If you feel you can give them a new start to life, please private message us.....DO NOT post here, we dont want to miss it

Flying Hope Companion Bird Rescue&Re-home 10.10.2019

Flying Hope would like to thank everybody who donated so these little ones could have the vet care they needed. Except for one being a little underweight, they all were deemed healthy by my Avian vet, Dr. Kim Kosari. Nails and beaks needed to be done but otherwise all is well!! We will be posting those for adoption next week. Thank you all again!! <3

Flying Hope Companion Bird Rescue&Re-home 20.09.2019

Flying Hope had a very busy Sunday, we had an emergency intake of 7 birds. We were contacted about the deplorable conditions of these poor souls - cages that were too small & covered with feces, disgusting bowls that looked like they had never been cleaned, no proper perches, no toys, not enough food. We were abit shocked when we took the covers off the cages - our hearts broke......they even had no names. When new birds come into rescue, we dont bother them too much - they ...are super stressed. But we had no choice yesterday, we had to clean the cages, and with a couple of them, give them bigger cages. One bird had NO PERCHES, she could only cling to the side of the filthy cage. Many Thanks to Wendy and Sue from Winged Oasis Parrot Rescue for driving these beautiful birds to us. We have contacted our avian vet, and she is coming this week to check the birds. They WILL NOT be available for adoption until after that happens. We are a small rescue, and taking in this large number of birds puts a strain on our resources. They need new cages, food, fresh fruits & veggies, and most importantly, they need vet care. We are asking for help, so if you are able, we would be most grateful. We accept Paypal and etransfers to [email protected]. We will also take gift cards to Walmart or local grocery stores to get the fresh foods they will need. Thank you for your consideration. We will post updates on these guys as soon as the vet checks them over. We look forward to seeing their personalities blossom, and giving them the love they deserve

Flying Hope Companion Bird Rescue&Re-home 01.09.2019

Most but not all.

Flying Hope Companion Bird Rescue&Re-home 16.08.2019

ADOPTED!!! This guys name is Smokey, and he has had a long journey. He came to Flying Hope last Summer - he was surrendered becasue of his bad behavior. He is VERY cage possessive, and his owners couldnt feed him, or clean his cage. We worked with him, trying to gain his trust. He had come along way, so we felt he was ready for a new home. He was adopted to a great home last Fall - they had bird experience. Things were going well, and he was coming out of his cage. But he ...decided something was to his dislike, and he bit 2 of his family members, bad enough to need stitches. They loved him, but felt they couldnt give him what he needed, so he came back to Flying Hope. Donna and the volunteers have been giving him space, and getting him used to people cleaning his cage (he still gives you stink eye, but will stay in the corner), and changing his dishes (he LOVES his food, and is getting better at waiting for you to get the bowl in the holder). Smokey will even come out of his cage with he is alone with Donna, and have "conversations". He is a riot when he has something to say...LOL. We feel that we want to start looking for a new home for him. It is our wish for every bird to have a place of their own, with more one-on-one time. That being said, Smokey will never be a "cuddly" guy; a bird that craves human touch. He loves it when you talk with him, and he loves to sit on top of his cage and enjoy whatever program you are watching on tv. He will step up for Donna, but you need to be very watchful of his body language. Smokey is a 5 year old Quaker with a big personality. He makes us laugh everyday. If you think you can give him the kind of home he needs, please private message us - dont post here, we dont want to miss it. See more

Flying Hope Companion Bird Rescue&Re-home 27.07.2019

MAVIE HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!! Another bird looking for a new home is Mavie (short for Maverick). The gender is unknown, but we have been saying "she" because she is so sweet. Mavie is a 5 yrs old green cheeked conure, and was surrendered due to no fault of her own (family developed allergies). She loves to have her head scratched. She can be alittle nippy (like most conures), but once we gets to know you - and trusts you - she will sit with you. She comes with her cage and toys. Please private message us if you are interested in a doing her - dont post here - we dont want to miss you.

Flying Hope Companion Bird Rescue&Re-home 21.07.2019

LYLA HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!! This beautiful girl is Lyla, and she is searching for a new home. She is a 6yr old Pacific parrotlet. She was loved in her previous home, but due to allergies, the family needed to find her another place to roost. She is a quirky girl, and will make you laugh with her antics. With time for her to learn to trust you, she is hand tame, and will follow you around the house. She has developed the bad habit of plucking, the vet says it is behavioral. We think she is kinds cute with her "fluffy" body. Lyla comes with her cage and toys - private message us if you think you can give her the home she needs. Dont post here - we dont want to miss you
