The FML method 11.06.2021

Not every detail taught OR instruction given in a class/group/workshop/YouTube video is for YOU! There! I said it! By now, you might have ventured out into the deep search results of online fitness - sometimes with success, sometimes with injury.... Think for a moment, if I was to give an instruction like 'sit up straight' in a class or group setting of let's say 10 people. You can expect people to 'sit up straight' in 10 different ways! The question is: * IS YOUR ADJUSTMENT RIGHT? * DID YOU DO WHAT WAS ASKED AND WAS IT RIGHT FOR YOUR BODY? * DID YOUR ADJUSTMENT BRING A BENEFIT TO THE OVERALL PICTURE OR DID IT CAUSE A COMPROMISE IN YOUR BODY SOMEWHERE ELSE? YOU need to make sure you are AWARE of WHAT you are actually training your body to do. IF YOU want your body to be ready for life, you must learn HOW to use your body, and understand the influence your movement limitations have on your ability to execute common exercises correctly. Creating awareness in the details of your fitness, rehab and movement efforts will make a lasting change to move with freedom and ease. As much as a fitness or rehab instructor can give you cues to discover movement in your own body, or at least give you alternatives that might accommodate your body during that session (because let’s be real, your body is never the same each time you do a workout/rehab session), it's never going to be as good as YOU being able to discover it for yourself. So are you going to leave it up to your fitness instructor to tell you about YOUR body? Or are you willing to discover your own? As an educator, the one thing I can always count on without a doubt is with every 'instruction' comes a variety of interpretation! This won’t feel like a lot of work, and you can’t overdo this. If you feel work in any other part of your leg, other than your hamstring, you have a tracking problem. All you need is a band, a chair, and possibly a face cloth.... 1 Hook your band on a solid surface. 2 Place your chair down and hook in one leg into the band and play with the distance and stretch of your band - and notice Is your body able to relax intro that traction? Are your knees stressed out? Quick pulse check - it is mid day on Friday, how are you feeling? Ready for the weekend? Counting down the hours until the day is done?... Already have plans for Saturday and Sunday? We often use the weekends to ‘recharge’, and we’ll typically schedule the things we LOVE to do most on the weekends. .you know, the walks by the water, that weekend project in the backyard, making that favourite recipe, reading that book, or finally watching that last episode. Exercise and our health sometimes gets lumped into the same phenomenon - the I’ll do it later once the ‘important’ things are done phenomenon. But what it be like if you didn’t wait until later? What if you did more of what sparks a light in you more often? Think of a balloon, what happens when you squeeze one part of it? Where you tend to move naturally is where you have mobility - where you don’t move is where you’re lacking stability. Help bring stability through your core with this simple breathing exercise!... Try this to work on both the mobility and stability in your body - lying on your back, place one hands on your upper chest and the other hand on your belly. 1. Take a deep breath into your belly. 2. Then inhale even more into your chest 3. Keep your chest expanded and exhale your belly 4. Then exhale your chest. If you’re struggling then add a weighted sand bag to your chest or belly to add extra feedback. Try this breathing exercise lying down, sitting and standing!
