MAGNET SERIES: DORSET (PORTLAND) One of the stops on a Norwegian Transatlantic Cruise was Portland, southern most point of Dorset, England. A fellow cruiser had organized private taxi tours from the Port and when they were able to add in West Bay where Broadchurch was filmed, I didn't hesitate to join the tour. The countryside is beautiful and along the way we passed The Osmington White Horse dated from 1808, a hill figure of King George cut into the limestone of Osmington H...ill just north of Weymouth. First stop was into neighbouring Somerset and the ruins of Corfe Castle, a Royal Fortress dating back to 979 and now owned by the National Trust. Just beside the ruins is the quaint village of Corfe. Next we headed for the Jurassic Coast and Lulworth Cove with it's amazing turquoise water. A steep mile trek will take you to the postcard sight of Durdle Door and although I didn't venture there, friends did the hike in reverse. The final stop was West Bay and for those who watched Broadchurch you'll recognize the beach. As you can guess from the photo, it was quite a windy day but as this could also explain the relative quiet beach, I can't complain.
