The province is in a difficult situation to say the least. We are in the wake of mill closure, people are out of work, and we have an aging population of landowners who may be feeling like they have nothing left. As best we can, we need to look forward, search for new markets, and incorporate all groups in the decision making processes that will lead to brighter futures for younger generations, and the health of our beautiful Acadian Forests. The transition team is faced wi...th the difficult task of finding a future. Protecting the people whose livelihoods are at risk is of top priority! We also need to consider that any decisions made by our provincial and federal governments are going to be impacting the younger generations of individuals in our workplace long after most of our elected (or appointed) officials retire. We need to make sure that we can create markets that promote REAL rural economic development - to ensure that money and recognition is going back into the hands of the tens of thousands of people in NS that deserve it most: Our Landowners! This video is from an event that I held at Pat and Janet O'Toole's woodlot in November, 2019. I was able to balance the group between experienced landowners, interested members, and younger current or prospective landowners. There are thousands of woodlots across the province that tell a similar story to Pat and Janet's. Moving forward, we need to make sure that informed and educated decisions are being made by groups that represent the cultural and generational mix of Nova Scotians we see today. Forests always have a story to tell, and we can all be a part of it. Hope you enjoy, FNSWO

Season's Greetings I hope everyone has had at least a few days to spend with family and friends over the holidays. By now I'm sure all of you have been informed of the decision of our Provincial Government to not grant an extension on Northern Pulp's proposal. A week ago marked the end of a very long and complicated time. Regardless of our relationships with all affected stakeholders our organizations mandate remains a clear one. We are here to support and meet the needs of o...ur members, the private woodland owners of this great province. We are driven to the task of (with your help!) moving forward and making sure the future of our forests is a bright one. One that incorporates everyone. Stay tuned, we have a few big things brewing in the near future!! We thank you for your continued support and wish everyone a happy holiday, and a happy new year! Sincerely, FNSWO
