Foam Only 16.11.2020

Does anyone care? It has been 1 month since FoamOnly closed. 8 yeas of momentum gone, advanced teleology scrapped. Now 650 tons of foam previously diverted foam is now entering landfill annually. Since our closure not one contact form Metro Vancouver nor any level of government asking how can we help nor voicing concern. Disgusting. ... I have come to the sad conclusion that no one really cares about the future generations world. We speak it but do nothing. I am saddened to realize this truth. Sorry kids thoughts and prayers.. A local reporter published a story about FoamOnly. Sadly the point was missed and blame was the headline. This is not the fault of metro nor is it a similar situation to matresses. FoamOnly is an unfortunate consequence of a system we created. We are not the first and by far not the largest to fall. There will be many more who will fail and diversion numbers will decrease or flatten. Without provincial accountability we will have no choice but to burn our waste recyc...lables included. FoamOnly can be viewed as an 8 year resherch project. Moving forward do we learn from the data and solve the systemic problom or blame. We have the opportunity to be leaders and make changes. Do we promote 0 waste conferences and discuss circular economy's and continue the endless churn. There is a lot at stake and identified glaring problems that can be solved. See more

Notice of Closure In 2018, FoamOnly diverted 650 mt of material, making it the highest diversion facility in Canada. All processed material was presold due to high material quality. This material shipped loose to land fill requires 650 53-foot trailers. Stacked end to end they are 10.5 KM long. In 2018 we diverted 4% of what the region generated. In 7 years, we have grown to only 4% diversion and volumes are now declining. The region, by Metro Vancouver's waste audit, produc...es 14000 mt annually. Shipped loose, this requires 14000 53 ft trailers to transport. Stacked end to end they are 225 km long. Working with SRED we have developed filtration and automation that can process 2 mt per hr or 57% of the region’s material. Due to lack of material, political motivation and regulations, FoamOnly is forced to close effective immediately. Thank you to all that did choose to participate. We are grateful and we did our best. I am saddened for the loss of jobs to all our staff and the environmental impact this will have. Sincerely, Mark Obedzinski Founder FoamOnly recycling corp See more
