Even though a lot of our clients are likely best served through regular, long term training arrangements, we want to make ourselves unnecessary wherever possible. Joe was Brodin's client a few years ago. He had a demanding schedule in the summers and some big aspirations to become a firefighter. It was obvious what he really needed was to make most of the few months he could regularly work with a tra...iner and ideally become self sufficient with fitness. We are looking forward to being able to offer services at Focal Fit again beginning Monday February 15th (we’ve had enough days off). Based on the guidelines we have been provided as of now we will offer classes limited to one person. We will be removing punch cards and membership options and each class will be $20 and be first come first served. Online booking will be available before the end of the today.... We are hoping the province will realize that members of the same household should be able to work out together, but for the time being we encourage couples to decide between themselves how to share bookings. Anyone who is set up with a personal trainer will be contacted by their trainer to arrange appointments. With this plan we are trying to split the difference between our trainers receiving less than ideal compensation while still being able to provide services to their clients. Home stretch Some general tips if you've ever slipped on a goal. You may find yourself in one of several positions. ... 1) You're killin it. As you were. 2) You're a little behind. Not an issue! Take stock of the adherence you have been capable of until now rather than discredit it due to what is simply a lack of perfection. We all lack perfection! Finish strong 3) You're behind enough that you either won't make it or would have to suffer a lot to make up the difference. Take a deep breath... If setting goals only ever makes you resent yourself, progress will be hard to come by. Failure is a valuable teacher when viewed through the right lens. If you dropped your cell phone, you wouldn't step on it since it's already down there! You'd pick it up and try to take better care of it. Do that with this challenge. Accept you fell short until now and make the most of the next 5 days 4) You're hearing about this challenge for the first time. Hop on up this bandwagon! Remember, the point is to keep it small and achievable to ease a transition back into regular workouts; presumably in some kind of gym setting. For most people cardio is the definition of necessary evil, so making sure you have some options to change it up can be extremely valuable. Feel free to request having the bag set up. COUNTDOWN CHALLENGE AND HABIT FORMATION So obviously gyms weren't included in reopening (non gov gyms anyways; don't get me started). BUT! In all likelihood we're probably looking at about a 20 day gap between now and when we do get to open in some capacity. ... While there's no guarantees, what small fitness change could you commit to within the next 20 days? I can't emphasize this enough, the smaller the better! And the closer it is to something you're ALREADY doing the better. Setting large goals for short periods of time is rarely fruitful. People tend to overestimate what they can accomplish in a short amount of time and underestimate what they can accomplish in a long amount of time. My observation is that people cheat themselves out of long term progress because they constantly set themselves up to fail by their own unreasonable standards in the short term. So keep it small and post here or dm us for some accountability! I (Brodi) am going to try to put some time into the new punching bag 4 times over the next 20 days. I've already gotten in about once per week, but I'd like to get my heart rate up a little more often. So over 20 days I want to increase the frequency of my favorite cardio workout. 1 down as of this morning! Eating out 3 times a week? Shoot for 2. Having a frap a day? Try lower milk fat a couple times a week. Doing one half-assed home workout a week? Get in a short Ab workout on one other day. If your brain makes changes slowly then so do you! I've come to prefer the cable tricep kickback to the dumbbell tricep kickback. The resistance is constant throughout the movement and it extends the range of motion considerably. Slight disadvantage might be that there is not really a practical way to hit both arms at once (you COULD use a long piece of fabric such as a jui jitsu belt) so in most settings it will be more time consuming. I'd have to say it's worth it. No wonder @__ryanmurray put it in my program when I hired h...im!
