Fog Lit Book Festival Seeking New Board Members... February 20, 2020 The Fog Lit Book Festival brings together readers and writers of all ages and abilities to encourage and celebrate a love of reading and writing. We have a proven track record of six successful annual Festivals. Events include published author readings, open mic readings for local writers, author-led workshops, publisher consultations, and mixed format events that include music and art. All events are free. The Festival traditionally takes place over several days in late September / early October with satellite events presented throughout the year. The Fog Lit Book Festival is seeking new board members with vision and leadership abilities to participate in advancing Fog Lit in exciting new and sustainable directions. We want to create a Board that is diverse in many ways including skills, gender, age and cultural background. We welcome anyone who loves books and can commit a reasonable amount of time to the organization. Despite having funding in place, the Fog Lit Book Festival took a hiatus last year as we did not have enough board members to fulfill our mandate. Board capacity continues to be a challenge, with the current members looking to step away due to family, work or retirement obligations, or relocation. Several current members have passionately dedicated the past 6-8 years to Fog Lit and are ready to pass over the reins. Fog Lit is planning to hold condensed programming this year as well to prepare for a new team to hit the ground running next year. The Board needs to recruit a new creative and energetic team who are passionate about reading and/or writing to step up and continue this wonderful festival that has been established as an important unique cultural event in the greater Saint John Area. The Fog Lit Board, over the past few years, has spent a great deal of time documenting festival details and creating event logs to ensure an easy transition from person to person/ team to team. The current board members look forward to helping the new team transition over the coming year to ensure a successful year to follow. On Thursday March 12, from 7 to 8:30 at the library we will be hosting a meet and greet event for anyone interested in our board. There will be a short presentation, a Q&A, informal discussion and of course refreshments. You can also contact us for further information at [email protected].
