Since reopening the Fonthill Marketplace Dental office in June we’ve implemented increased safety precautions, including additional PPE for all staff, screening patients for COVID-19 prior to appointments, physical distancing between staff and patients within the clinic, and increased sterilization of rooms and equipment between every appointment. Our goal is to help patients feel as comfortable as possible from the moment they arrive in our office until the time they go home. Baby’s First Dentist Appointment Dr. Tom’s son had his first dental checkup! Nicholas is 14 months with 9 teeth. We typically recommend kids visit the dentist within 6 months of their first tooth erupting / by their first birthday... but with COVID we had to wait.... The whole appointment took less than 5 minutes. We sang a quick song, Nicholas had a few wtf tears, and then he got a sticker. Parents - it definitely helped that the dentist was familiar, so if it’s time for your child’s first dentist appointment, we can always set up a *meet & greet* with Dr. Tom before the actual appointment. Whitney is back in action! It feels so good to be back at the front desk! I’ve been busy all morning contacting patients seeing how everyone is doing and feeling! Good news - we’re officially open for all dental appointments! On May 31st, the Royal College of Dental Surgeons (RCDSO) advised that dentists in Ontario can resume providing in-person treatment for all deferred, non-essential, and elective services, in addition to emergency and urgent care. This message aligns with the announcement on May 26th from the Ontario government regarding all regulated healthcare professionals. For your safety, and at the directi...ve of our college, we’ll be proceeding with caution in a staged approach as we reopen Fonthill Marketplace Dental, starting with hygiene and non-aerosol generating procedures. For patients eager to get a cleaning, watch for a followup email next week with instructions to book a time with Whitney. We’re working hard to complete office upgrades and secure essential personal protective equipment, so you can feel as safe as possible at your next appointment. We’ll be calling all previously cancelled patients and everyone who requested treatment while we were closed. We’ll be booking patients as early as June 10. We’ll continue to prescreen all staff and patients for COVID-19. Appointments will be spaced out to ensure social distancing. Patients coming into the office will be asked to wear a face mask. Next time you see us things will look a little different at the office, and so will we. We’ll be dressed in full personal protective equipment, including scrubs, gloves, gowns, masks, and face shields, when necessary. Dear patients and friends, This week the Ontario Ministry of Health announced that regulated health professionals can resume treating patients for non-emergency care. However, dental offices are limited to essential care until we receive further guidance from our regulatory body, the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO). Return to practice will occur in well-defined stages that balance the new normal’ with the risks of spreading COVID-19. We’ve been working ha...rd to prepare the Fonthill Marketplace Dental office and staff in accordance with the best evidence and data so that treatment can resume safely and effectively. This includes ensuring we have adequate supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE), updating our air filtration in our operatories, and implementing structural changes in the office. Our top priority is your health and wellbeing. We anticipate an announcement from the RCDSO and will keep you informed once we can book appointments for non-emergency care. Rest assured that I (Dr. Tom) will personally continue to respond to all voicemails and emails regarding any questions or concerns you may have. Should you experience any pain, discomfort, swelling, or trauma, we are still seeing patients on an emergency basis. Please do not hesitate to contact us. I haven't been to the dentist in over 25 years. I am absolutely nervous with the dentist and Whitney was able to calm my nerves down, by having fun and joking around in the operatory which made things a lot easier.
