Building a shelter for a homeless person with things I find on the streets. It's not just about food!!

What an amazing week, rain, snow couldn't stop us delivering your amazing generous donations to people on the street. We just arrived home from delivering some delicious lunches from Mei-An, what a treat, second time this week, you are always an amazing supporter of Food For Now. We received 15 Tim Hortons gift cards delivered by Emma from Charity, two very generous supporters of ours. Thank you to Michelle for the boots and clothing, you are amazing as usual, a big thank you. Also Natasha and partner who donated today; snacks, food, new pillows & blankets, clean organized clothing a big thank you for your generosity and taking the time to size the clothing in clear bags. We put out the ask for Godfrey's new pair of boots size 11, he was wearing running shoes in the snow, in the encampment, where he lives. He has now a beautiful pair of winter boots. Thank you so much for the warm and cozy items you donated this week, I made up 60 packages for Friday, including; hat, scarf, mittens, socks for the homeless. We are still asking for coats, boots, mittens, socks, scarves, hats, please make sure they are clean and in good repair. No summer clothing and shoes please, we just don't have the space. So grateful to all our donors this week, you will have an honorable, mention later in the week, we are so blessed with your kindness. We usually receive clean and in good condition however. Just a polite reminder we are not taking ANY Summer clothing, or soiled/stained and damaged winter items. I organize, pack and hand out the donations with Daniel, we give clothing out to churches, motels and people on the street. Happy Halloween on Saturday! In the South Etobicoke area we are doing porch pickup, the week of 2nd November, for your unused Halloween candy, chips and sweet treats. These are the number 1 request from the people we serve on the streets, we always include a treat with a sandwich, fruit and drinks. We are still doing porch pickup of your warm clothing and blankets/pillows/winter boots. So if you have any surplus items, please let us know. Baby it's cold outside, Food for Now has started to collect donations for our Christmas Santa fundraiser, we originally were going to organize a shoe box drive, to make sure everyone who is experiencing homeless or displacement to receive a Santa box, to remind people we care and they have not been forgotten. Because of Covid 19 restrictions we have decided to have a fundraiser so we can purchase items like; gift certificates, so they can buy a meal, a warm care package; ha...t, mittens, socks, scratch cards, candy, toiletries. Long day on the streets, thank you for all the donations. Catherine and I would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

We met a new friend yesterday in Bell Trinity Park, it was Michael's first night in a tent, he found an abandoned tent in the park and set up his home. Remember some of us are only one step from being homeless. Michael is a positive friendly gentleman, who is a craftsman Stone Mason by trade, who has worked in some of the most affluent homes in the GTA. After a serious car accident, his life changed, lost his job and eventually his apartment. Michael is willing to work and ...stays optimistic this is just a temporary situation. He is smart and well dressed and a gentleman. We dropped off an extra large tarp, water, snacks and socks. He was so grateful and very happy to speak to us about his situation. His tent smelled of a scented candle, he was comfortable for the night and happy to make new friends.
