Meals on Wheels of Fredericton is cancelling meal delivery today due to the storm warning and anticipated road conditions at delivery time. Thank you for your understanding.

Today’s entrees were too pretty not to share! Crustless Quiche and Hand Breaded Pork Chops! This is to celebrate one week completion of our York Care Transition of meals and our brand new menu (we’re sending out about 230 meals a day from our tiny little kitchen!). Overall, there have been some growing pains, but all has gone smoothly with the help of our lovely volunteers, clients and our brilliant MOW Lunchbox Kitchen staff. ... Happy Sunday, Y’all! Dig in!

We're back with "Whos Behind the Wheel Wednesday!" This week we'd like to introduce you to Katie Beers, a new volunteer who brings a great energy to our roster of dedicated volunteers! We asked Katie what she enjoys about volunteering with us here at MOW: ... When I saw Meals on Wheels put out a call for volunteers I knew immediately that I wanted to help out! I love doing my weekly route because not only is it quick and fun but the folks on my route are so kind and appreciative! I hope that one day should any of my family need this service, that a volunteer would be there to help them out too! Thank you, Katie for your time each week! We love that your copilot can join you on your deliveries!

It's back to school season! And unfortunately, that means 'back to school' for our Summer Students. We are so lucky to have had these 3 young women join us this summer - Thank you for your dedication to our organization, and most importantly - our Clients! One of the perks of volunteering for Meals on Wheels is developing friendships with people like this lovely lady - Ruby Slauenwhite - who is celebrating her 100th birthday today. Ruby has received meals from us for many years, and managed to make everyone who delivered to her feel very special. She held court today in her daughters garden, where those of us lucky enough to to know her were able to deliver fond birthday wishes (at a distance of course!). Happy Birthday Ruby! And many more to come.

Whos Behind the Wheel Wednesday! Our volunteer this week for Whos Behind the Wheel Wednesday is Robert Fisher!! Robert decided to start volunteering with Meals on Wheels when we put out a call for volunteers shortly after COVID-19. He has been with us for 4 months now and is doing a wonderful job! ... Robert has a history of volunteering, he had been volunteering at homeless shelters before he started volunteering with Meals on Wheels. After he retired he thought that giving back would be a good way to spend his new found time! Roberts favorite part about volunteering for Meals on Wheels is it keeps him active by getting him out of his house and making new connections with clients. Thank you Robert for being a fantastic volunteer at Meals on Wheels, we are very lucky to have you!

We want to say a big thank you to our friends at Kitchen Helper for sending us little bags of potatoes to give out to our volunteers! It was a very thoughtful and generous gift. Although, we are not surprised because Kitchen Helper is known for their generosity with many local businesses in the Fredericton area!!

We love it when our volunteers bring along little helpers!

Whos Behind the Wheel Wednesday! Our volunteer this week for Whos Behind the Wheel Wednesday is Barney Jeffrey! Barney has been Volunteering with Meals on Wheels for 18 years! Barney started volunteering with Meals on Wheels because when he retired, he wanted something to do to give back to the community and he heard about Meals on Wheels through a co-worker and thought he would give it a try! Barneys favorite part about volunteering for Meals on Wheels is talking to the clients and making meaningful connections with them. Thank you so much Barney for being a marvelous volunteer at Meals on Wheels, we are very lucky to have you with us!

Transformation Tuesday! A project that a few of our summer students have been working on is redecorating our kitchen! They have done a fantastic job and we are very lucky to have their brilliant minds on our team!

His favorite thing about volunteering is that he has volunteered all his life and he is very glad he can continue doing so with Meals on Wheels. Thank you very much Roberto for all the time you have put into volunteering with us, and we want you to know how appreciated you are!!

Todays volunteer for Whos Behind the Wheel Wednesday is Sharon Vickers! Sharon has been volunteering with Meals on Wheels for almost 15 years! Sharon said that she stared volunteering because she wanted to give back to the community and it is a great way to do so. Her favorite part about volunteering with Meals on Wheels is being able to interact with all the people like the clients, staff, and other volunteers! Thank you so much Sharon for all that you do for Meals on Wheels, we simply couldnt do it without your dedication!!

Whos Behind the Wheel Wednesday! A few volunteers we would like to recognize this week for Whos Behind the Wheel Wednesday are Pat and Linda OBrien! We spoke with Pat and asked him how long he and Linda have been volunteering for meals on wheels and he said that they have been doing it for about 2-3 years and today they also brought their granddaughter along! He said that they started volunteering with us because they both wanted to give back to the community and figured i...t would be rewarding to use their spare time to volunteer. Whos Behind the Wheel Wednesday! Our volunteer this week for Whos Behind the Wheel Wednesday is Aaron Stone! When we asked Aaron how long he has been volunteering for Meals on Wheels he said that he has no idea but if he had to guess he would say he has been doing it for about 5 or 6 years! Aaron started volunteering with Meals on Wheels because he retired early and wanted something productive to do with his new found free time. Aarons favorite part about volunteering for Meals on Wheels is getting out of the house and meeting great people and making sure they are doing okay. We cannot thank Aaron enough for being a marvelous volunteer at Meals on Wheels, we are very fortunate to have you with us!

We are so pleased to welcome three summer students to our team here at Meals on Wheels! Our first student is Drew Blaney who was with us last summer and is excited to be back at it! Drew is going into her fourth year at St.Thomas University studying psychology. We are also so pleased to have Shanece Wilson on our team this summer! Shanece just graduated from UNB with a degree in electrical engineering and is planning to further her education by doing her masters in renewable ...energy! We would also like to welcome Megan Mcgarity to Meals on Wheels! Megan just graduated from St.Thomas University with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in gerontology and she is also planning to further her education by starting the STU social work program in the fall. We are so excited to have these wonderful students working with us this summer and couldnt be happier! Welcome to the team guys!! See more

Happy 80th Birthday to Dave Blacklock!! Dave is on the board of directors here at meals on wheels but he also spends time delivering meals and washing dishes in the kitchen. We are so happy to have Dave on our team and we are so greatful for everything he does! Happy Birthday!

Meals On Wheels is introducing- Whos Behind the Wheel Wednesdays! Every Wednesday we will be highlighting different volunteers and looking into what their Meals on Wheels journeys are like! Our first volunteer for Whos behind the Wheel Wednesday is Valerie DeLong! Valerie has been volunteering for Meals on Wheels for 32 years! We asked Valerie why she started volunteering with Meals on Wheels and she told us how she use to volunteer with the Friendly Visitors Program tha...t was designed to provide company, assistance and support to older adults living on their own but it got canceled. She wanted to continue volunteering with older adults so she thought Meals on Wheels would be the perfect way to do so. Valeries favourite part about volunteering for Meals on Wheels is having people appreciate the work she is doing and giving back to the community. We would like to say a big thank you to some very generous volunteer sewers from all across New Brunswick working with the agency Canada Sews for making a great deal of cloth facemasks! We would also like to thank United Way Central New Brunswick for making all of this possible. With their help we are now better equipped and it has made our volunteers and staff feel extra protected and safe!

Our Business of the month for May is S/S Tire and Auto! We appreciate and thank you for your support during the midst of these difficult times!

When businesses began shutting down in early March I didn't know what it would mean for my Zumba classes. I wasn't sure whether I would be able to continue teac...hing, and if it would be possible to keep supporting local charities in our community. Your generosity has made both of these things possible! Not only have we been able to continue dancing together virtually, but we've also been able to support Meals on Wheels of Fredericton Inc. in providing affordable, nutritious meals to seniors, individuals with a disability, and people recovering from illness, surgery or injury. Community organizations need our support now more than ever - THANK YOU for making this happen!
