A new study by Simon Fraser University's Food Systems Lab revealed that approximately 14 percent of the world’s food is lost before it ever reaches store shelves. In Canada, 35.5 million metric tonnes of food is lost or wasted annually, costing the economy $49.5 billion. This frustrating occurence, however, can be mitigated by the 'right to food' strategy that connects farmers to alternative outlets and government-funded food procurement programmes. #foodsystem #foodwaste
Germany’s voluntary code governing marketing food to children has been updated. Advertising must not induce children to eat unhealthily, Federal Minister of Food Julia Klöckner stressed. Changes to the code include increasing the age that the code covers to 14, and expanding the scope of channels to include video-sharing platforms and social media, including YouTube and TikTok. #StopMarketing2Kids

They fight to protect their traditional territory for future generations from industrial development by pushing for policy changes, building alliances and building on the next generation. "Education and funding for food security efforts are needed, but it’s most important to dismantle the racist system in order to encourage Indigenous food sovereignty." #foodsovereignty #foodjusticeisracialjustice
Prince Edward Island became the first jurisdiction in Canada to have passed the bill that sets explicit and binding targets for #FoodInsecurity reduction. The goal is to eliminate food insecurity in PEI entirely by 2030. Other than PEI, none other federal, provincial, and territorial governments have declared food insecurity reduction targets or commitments to fully eliminate poverty.
