Please share this post to get osteopathic manual practitioners back to work. The more shares we get the more coverage we will have to make the government see us!!!

Calmness induced by osteopathy. The world is upside down however I am beyond grateful to be able to continue to treat under my massage therapy designation as manual osteopathy fights for the right to be able to work. Please call your local MPP and advocate for your right to see your local osteopathic manual practitioner #osteopathicmanualtherapy #osteopathyisessentialcare #paediatricosteopathy #essentialworkers

Posted @withregram @mommyandme.pt W-SITTING This is a bit of a controversial topic, in my opinion. A lot of people feel REALLY strongly about it in one direction or another. So, what’s the deal with w-sitting? Is it good, bad or indifferent? Here’s my opinion! W-sitting is just like it sounds: the feet are tucked behind and pointed away from the body! This position can be a common transitional position for babies/toddlers, and it isn’t necessarily a concern if they are ab...le to easily move out of that position and use a variety of other sitting positions! Unfortunately, prolonged w-sitting can lead to serious problems with core strength and can cause damage to the hip/knee joints: +W-sitting creates a large base of support, meaning your core is basically turned off. The wide position of the legs is creating stability, so the tummy doesn’t have to do the work. This position also prevents weight shifting and decreases the ability to cross midline. All of these factors can lead to poor motor skills and coordination. +This position puts a lot of excess pressure on the knees and can lead to in-toeing while standing or walking. +If your baby/toddler ONLY sits in this position or sits this way more than 50% of the time, it could be a red flag for core weakness, low muscle tone or poor sitting balance. +If you see your child sitting in w-sitting, encourage a new sitting position like criss-cross, legs out straight in front or side sitting. Pick a simple phrase like feet in front and use it consistently to redirect your child. You can gently reposition the legs to reinforce the verbal cue initially! +If your child has difficulty sitting in other positions, it could be an indication of something else going on. It is worth seeking an evaluation from a PT! #paediateicphysiotherapy #wsitting #hipdysplasia #fixyourlegs #crisscrossapplesauce

Posted @withregram @helen_the_lc Reposted from @kellyibclc If you have low supply and you want to increase it, it is important to know the cause. First, we need to figure out if the low supply is primary or secondary. If low supply is primary, we need to figure out what the medical issue is and go from there. The plan of attack usually includes getting in depth lab values, and possibly taking herbs, medications, nutritional supplements, and/or possibly making diet cha...nges based on those lab values...all while making sure milk removal is efficient. We focus on getting you healthier, which in turns raises milk supply. Some examples of causes of primary low milk supply include: Insufficient glandular tissue (IGT) in the breasts Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) Hashimotos or other thyroid hormone imbalance High blood glucose levels / Type II DM or Gestational DM (Not everyone with these conditions will have low supply) With secondary low milk supply, we need to make sure enough milk removal is happening daily and that milk removal is efficient. We might utilize supplements for this category also, but it not usually as imperative. This is very common. There are so many reasons that breastfeeders or pumpers get off to a bad start. Here are some examples. baby is latching but not transferring enough milk - which isn't discovered until milk supply is also low. baby is supplemented and there is no pumping to replace that supplement flange size is wrong baby isn't latching in first 48 hours and mom is pumping, but not hand expressing which is most efficient in the first 48 hours. Other things that secondarily can cause low milk supply: retained placenta ingesting an antigalactogenic herb birth control #breastfeeding #pumping #IGT #pcos #thyroid #hashimotos #lowsupply #lowmilksupply #IBCLC #Lactation #lactationconsultant #liquidgold #everydropcounts #birthcontrol #flangesize #informedisbest #supportisbest Reposted from @kellyibclc See more

Posted @withregram @physiojill SITTING SERIES: TRUNK ROTATION Woohoo! Your baby is able to sit all by themselves! Well, now what? TRUNK ROTATION! Having your baby maintain stability while rotating through their trunk is a key developmental skill Find out more below! WHY IS TRUNK ROTATION IMPORTANT? ... Incorporating rotation during sitting play challenges your baby’s postural stability and teaches them how to weight shift from one side to another without loosing their balance Trunk rotation is also a foundational movement for future motor skills including transitioning in and out of sitting, crawling, and walking! Thinking even further down the line, we need to maintain stability while rotating through our trunk in order to run , skate , swim , and play sports! HOW CAN I ENCOURAGE TRUNK ROTATION? Start by positioning toys on the left and right sides of your baby! This naturally encourages your baby to turn to either side to engage with their favourite toys Once your baby has mastered trunk rotation to either side, start to place the toys either further behind them or further out to the side, to encourage them to reach outside of their stable base of support Stay tuned for the next post where we will be discussing a seated position of play that encourages LOTS of trunk rotation and is especially important for transitions! Any guesses?! Leave them in the comments below #sitting #sittingbalance #babiesofinstagram #kidsofinstagram #momsofinstagram #torontomom #physiotherapy #kidsphysio #torontophysiotherapy #footprintstherapy

Posted @withregram @physiojill NEW SERIES: SITTING Welcome to the sitting series! The series will cover when you can start to practice sitting, how to teach your baby how to sit in their own, and various seated positions of play. First up...TRIPOD SITTING! WHAT IS TRIPOD SITTING?... The position in which your baby props their hands up on the floor in front of them to support themselves in sitting WHEN SHOULD I START? You can start to practice this seated position around 4-5 months of age! By this time, your baby should have good head control (i.e. they can lift hold their head up own their own) When your baby starts to prop themselves up on their forearms and hands during tummy time (hint: see my last 2 posts for pictures!), that is a good indicator that they have the strength to practice the tripod sit! HOW SHOULD I PRACTICE? Start by placing their hands propped up on an elevated surface! You can use a breastfeeding pillow, a raised toy, or an upturned bin to support their hands By propping their hands up, this encourages them to sit in a more upright position, rather than folding forwards at their hips Make the activity more challenging by lowering the support surface until they are able to hold themselves up with their hands directly on the floor Try this position at home with your and let me know how it goes! #sitting #tripodsitting #babiesofinstagram #momsofinstagram #kidsofinstagram #physiotherapy #kidsphysiotherapy #pediatrics #pediatricphysicaltherapy #pedipt #torontophysio
