The nursery is starting to come to life. Early salad greens, onions, leeks, and some itty bitty celery have germinated.

It’s a big job just to get set up to do the work. We’ve been upgrading our nursery greenhouse this month before we start heating it and filling it with plants. Some people say build it right the first time but we go with build what you can afford and figure it out later. We added a nice new polycarbonate wall. We also added a bigger propane furnace with more heating capacity so I don’t have to wake up at 2:30 every morning to fill the wood furnace anymore. We get a lot out of this greenhouse. It provides all of our seedlings for the farm, after the bulk of seedling production is finished we plant a hot season crop like cucumber, tomato or peppers. Then in October we’ll fill it with greens for winter markets/CSA.

I know, I know everybody has been wondering when rutabaga will be available again. And finally, the day is here, it is rutabaga season again and they are glorious. Limit of one rutabaga per customer so that we can keep up with demand.

Winter pac choy transplanted into the greenhouse and finally, for the first time since March, we don’t have any trays of seedlings to water every day.

Squash harvest is underway. These early frosts prompted us to go ahead and harvest one field that had poor leaf coverage over the squash. Another healthier looking section we left out and covered. We’ve had 3 nights of consecutive frost with another on the way. While squash are sweetened by a frost on the leaves consecutive frosts on the fruit will lead to poor storage life. This row cover seems to have kept the worst of the frosts off the fruit and hopefully we’ll have lots of squash all winter long. All set up for Wychwood market. It’s really happening come on by. No line at the moment so you’ll waltz right in!

It’s official this time! Wychwood barns will be open THIS SATURDAY AUGUST 8, 8:00 to 1:00. As with all markets at this time expect a line up. Typical wait times are from 10-20 mins but once you’re in the market your shopping experience is fast and you’ve got room to roam. It’s one way traffic through the market. We’ll be the first vendor in the entrance so don’t sleep on picking up our produce as you won’t be able to double back. Wear a MASK and respect people’s space! Very excited to be back at our old stomping grounds. We will be at brickworks as well!
