Goodbye to a Gastown icon and legend ... RIP Kenny Grano. https://www.cbc.ca//kenny-grano-gastown-obituary-1.5811712
1917: Interior of the magnificent Pantages Theatre. Ornate and awe-inspiring in every conceivable way. Originally a vaudeville venue VPL
Here's our very own Eric Regimbald on a recent Lost Souls of Gastown walking tour, where he and his group encountered none other than Ray Saunders....the man who built the steam clock and still services it to this day! Ray had a really bad fall a year ago when he fell from a ladder while servicing a clock. It's so great to see him back on his feet doing what he loves!
Fascinating upcoming event by the City of Vancouver. Covid 19 isn't our city's first pandemic of course!
A write-up on our Last Gang in Town walking tour held this past weekend. Good times had by all and more East Van gang history than you can shake a stick at! For anyone who missed out this time, we're looking into dates in spring 2021. And hit up your favourite bookstore for a copy of the Last Gang in Town by Aaron Chapman in the meantime! Last Gang In Town Clark Park Walking Tour
A cool history tidbit courtesy of our friends at Every Place has a Story! Can only imagine the adventures that Charles and Lucy had on their travels.
Forbidden Vancouver founder Will Woods shares the story of his journey into the world of walking tours! Thanks to the incredible Dylan Wolfe at Sybuk Media for creating and producing this piece! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpNfGMbMi8s&t=4s
A ballad of loss, murder, and disaster written and performed by our very own talented storyteller Alison Jenkins! If you've taken the Lost Souls of Gastown with a female storyteller you will have heard the story of Sarah Briars.....we always thought it would make for a incredible song! Alison we are so impressed!
We'd like to give a big shout out to our great friend at Vancouver Foodie Tours, Michelle Ng, who launched a fantastic new company during the pandemic -- The Granville Island Delivery Co. Looking for culinary treats but don't want to visit the market?.....problem solved!
Some pics from our Last Gang In Town walking tour in Clark Park this past weekend. Guides Danny "Mouse" Williamson and Bradley Bennett generously shared their personal histories from Vancouver's 1970s street gang scene. And host Aaron Chapman...the man who wrote the book...was on hand to offer the inside scoop on how the VPD's secret "Heavy Squad" took on the Clark Park gang. Thanks to everyone who came out and participated. We were bowled over by all the interest and sold out every ticket. We're hoping to re-stage the event again before too long. Stay tuned!
Announcing our new special event: The Last Gang in Town Clark Park Walking Tour. Join local writer and historian Aaron Chapman and former Clark Park gang member Danny Mouse Williamson on a walking tour of Vancouver's Clark Park. They’ll take you back in time to East Vancouver of the 1970s and share the remarkable tale of how one of the VPD’s most feared undercover units tackled one of the city’s most legendary street gangs. Saturday September 5 with two start times to choose from: 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Duration 90 mins. Tickets $29. We're limiting audience size due to Covid 19, so move fast or you'll miss out! https://forbiddenvancouver.ca//the-last-gang-in-town-clar/
We always enjoy telling the story of Vancouver's Deadman's Island on our Dark Secrets of Stanley Park Tour. Sounds like Kent in England has an island of the same name, and an equally morbid history! https://www.kentlive.news//deadmans-island-kents-horrifyin
Meet our very own Glenn Tkach, the creator and guide of the Really Gay History Tour, as he reveals some of the untold history of Vancouver's gay community. Thank you to Dylan Wolfe at ethno. for putting this together. Ethno have some fascinating short interviews with other interesting Vancouverites on their page. Well worth following! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdIO640d4o8
