HOW FOREST CITY FILING SAVES LONDON ONTARIO LAWYERS TIME AND MONEY The court clerks are busy, overworked and understaffed. Despite this, they usually do a great job. However mistakes will happen. It's our job to catch and prevent them. That is why every law firm needs a good filing professional who has the knowledge and willingness to stand up for counsel at the counter. ... Before starting this business, I graduated with distinction, earning a BA in Law from Carleton University. I was then studied for two years at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law. I am very familiar with the Family Law Rules and the Local Practice Directions. Most importantly, I take the time to read through all of the materials I bring to the counter. I often consult with the lawyers, a priori, when there are any foreseeable issues. This attention to detail and our genuine care for the lawyers and their clients has saved them time, money, and certificate hours. A RECENT EXAMPLE: An oversight was made by a clerk who refused to issue an order when the copy I had was not approved to form and content. Because I read through the entire file (and not just the memo), I was able to catch that the opposing party was not in court, and therefore an approved copy was not required. There are new confirmation forms for both motions and conferences. On July 1st 2018, updated rules relating to costs (specifically sub-rules 17(18), 17(18.1), and 24(10)-24(12.1) will come into effect.
