Buttercups, Saskatoon berry buds (we will have SO many berries!) & pine cones everywhere (almost). And pruned vines in the vineyard! 'Tis the season! Sunshine, warming days, cool nights and life is happening again. Also, today I saw 4 coyotes crossing the road in front of the B&B and then a bunch of deer, right on the road. They did step off the road when I drove by but not more that 4' or 5' away. They just stood there, looking at me while thinking "I'm invisible, you can'...t see me". Right! Life at FH. The Wine Village, north of Oliver, is going to be built in stages and is planning to open (stage 1?) in June this year. Looks kind of interesting. Maybe plan to spend an afternoon there tasting different wines & having lunch. More details in the article below. Forgotten Hill is a gated estate - approx. 148 acres of beautiful nature. It is a hidden place of peace & quiet & stunning views (NOT kidding!) of lake, mountains, dozens of vineyards and wide-open sky. It is full of life: deer, quail families, chipmunks, marmots, coyotes, birds galore and the occasional bear. It is also full of Ponderosa Pines, tall grasses, Oregon Grape & wild roses - just to name some of our plant life. We welcome a number of guests to our B&B every year. The B&B itself is quite a distance from our gates almost a kilometre. Some come quite often so know their way but for our new guests we have signage along our road. It's amazing how stunning our gardens can be. We designed them to have the feel of the South of France with peach gravel, tall grasses and flowers. I just love this scene: a Forgotten Hill guest, who is trying (really hard) to make space in his car for all the wine that was bought. Make a note: you must come here in a much larger vehicle with space for cases of wine. OR, the only other real option is to have it all shipped home. Really, you're going to buy wine, oodles of it. Clean, crisp, airy, very white. So many guests ask if we get snow here at FH. Hard to imagine at the height of summer when it is sunny & hot but oh, yes we do. It sort of comes & goes usually but sometimes it stays and collects. Sometimes it stays till March - which is why we don't re-open till March at the earliest. Happy new year all.
