Friday, November 20 Recently, CBC news reported the Nova Scotia government is delaying action on two pieces of legislation a new Biodiversity Act and regulati...ons associated with the Sustainable Development Goals Act. Officials say more consultation is needed before moving forward. The optimist in us says good for government if there is a genuine desire to ensure broad consultation before acting. The pessimist says we’ve heard that refrain many times while serving. One thing we know for sure is that governments rarely allocate sufficient time or resources to the consultation process. As we note in our book How Government Really Works, during our time in government, rarely were appropriate people, resources or financial resources assigned to the work. And it was just as rare to see a line item in a project budget referencing consultation or engagement or an associated action item in the list of deliverables. You can read the stories here: https://www.cbc.ca//biodiversity-forestry-environment-dere; https://www.cbc.ca//covid-19-gordon-wilson-environment-emm See more

It might be challenging to concentrate on anything that is not COVID-19-related, but books can be a balm and a distraction, and heaven knows we could all use some of both right now. Globe Books reached out to a number of Canadian authors to ask them about the literature they turn to in difficult times for comfort, perspective or simple pleasure.

Formac Publishing 06.09.2019

Books will be our friend through this crisis. As public events are cancelled and Canadians stay home, the book, and the solitary act of reading one, can have an important role to play. Stay safe everyone!
