Sorry I missed this. This is the first I've heard about Trout's passing and I am far away in South America right now. I have many memories of Trout, but here's ...a great one: I remember driving to the cottage with Trout one weekend in the middle of winter during a huge snowstorm and notating the entire Karen's Legs album with Trout. I was really just his musical Secretary, he had all of the music in his head and he would sing me the parts one by one and I would write them down on manuscript paper. We needed to do this in order to have the musicians recreate it properly in the studio. It was a full time job. We would write and drink all day and night until we couldn't write anymore. This went on for several days. Many of the songs were very elaborate. He knew exactly what he wanted and I tried my best to notate the parts and orchestrate them as best I could. I started running out of manuscript paper because I underestimated how much music there was so I started using a dictation book we found somewhere. He had 1 record at the cottage "Herb Alpert and the Tiajuana Brass" so we listened to that on the breaks. Anyways, eventually we came back to town and started the arduous recording process which involved many people and many months. He was really proud of the end result. And so am I. RIP Trout. See more
