How your community benefits from the census The census is an important part of Canadian identity, dating back to 1666, when Jean Talon, the first Intendant of New France, conducted the first Canadian Census. The census has become our country’s primary source of sociodemographic data and the information collected is used to support programs and communities across the country.... The census is an important part of our heritage that allows us to better understand our country, provinces, towns and neighbourhoods. It also helps governments make more informed decisions and policies. But how does it benefit you and your community specifically? And how does your contribution make a difference? In addition to doing your civic duty, there are many other advantages of participating in the census. Infrastructure. Communities are constantly evolving, with residents aging, starting families and new members moving in, and there is no better way to track and document these demographic characteristics than through the census. Once data is gathered, community organizations and local authorities can make stronger arguments for planning and infrastructure that meet your neighbourhood’s needs. Transportation. Do you use public transportation to get to work? Are there enough local buses for your teens to get around on their own, or long-distance buses for you to conveniently visit out-of-town family? The census collects information about commute times and public transit use, which can be used to create new bus routes and even add lanes to existing congested roads. Culture. Each community has a unique makeup of people in different life stages, whether it’s retirees or young families. Thanks to census data, provincial and federal governments are able to offer support services and programs that are tailored to their residents, such as daycare centres, schools and retirement residences. WHAT WOULD HEATHER BUY? (or has bought) This mornings highlighted Holiday Shopping Poker Derby participant is: The Harbourage Restaurant... Harbourage will be closed from December 19, 2020 & reopening mid to late January 2021 Where to start? the food, the view, the staff? I am going to start with my favourite- liver & onions! Yep that is right, liver & onions is one of my favorite meals. Believe me it is just as good when you get takeout or eat in. The hubby won't eat liver (his loss) but the veal cutlets are his favourite. Seeing the lineup along the road outside of the Harbourage for breakfast during the summer months is always a sure sign that there is an excellent breakfast being offered. Their wild rice soup is a must if you stop for lunch. Do you buy for friends, family or groups you belong to? Sewing group, book club, card club, coffee group, knitting/crocheting club etc. What a great gift to take them all for breakfast (or meet them there), have lunch/supper delivered during your get togethers, if not before Christmas then in February when the Harbourage is back to business. We just purchased, Nov 2020, a new upright freezer, it is so very quiet and holds more than what we thought it would as we purchased an apartment sized one. It is taller and thinner but fits in well to a smaller spot. Green's is so much more! Home accent and décor - pillows, lamps, rugs and mirrors. Masks are required as you join us in welcoming the riders who are holding a Poker Charity run on Sat Sept 19th. Portion of the proceeds to go to Bear Clan, UNFC Fort Frances & Riverside Foundation for Healthcare. Please come out & support the REDRUM Motorcycle Club, there is NO fee for entry into the lot. MOVIE NIGHT SEPT 3RD @ 8:30pm This weeks movie is Burlesque starring Cher, Christina Aguilera, Kristen Bell, Julianne Hough and many more. This movie won the 2011 Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song in a motion piction: "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me". The weather forecast shows rain in the morning of the 3rd and clearing around noon. If it is raining at 7:00 we will need to cancel the movie until the following week. ... The movie last week was a blaze of colour- the light behind the screen is turned off for the movie and it is very clear. We look forward to seeing you Thursday night!!!

MOVIE TONIGHT-TROLLS 2-WORLD TOUR 9:00 pm I have been asked a few questions so will answer here as well for clarification. Tickets were previously sold for this movie so we do not have accurate numbers for attendance, we will sell tickets at the entrance for as many cars that we can fit in safely.... Domino's is unable to attend tonight-Kiwanis will have drinks (pop & water) as well as popcorn and donuts. The deciding factor in what night we show the movie is weather. We hope that the weather evens out in Sept and we have fewer thunderstorms to deal with. Our projector, FM transmittor, and laptop all sit out (no protection) so follow along with us in checking the weather apps numerous times a day! Tonights movie is showing 1/2 earlier than last week - we hope to move the showing up by a 1/2 hour every week and should start to show 2 movies a night mid Sept and have a regular night rather than whatever day it doesnt threaten to rain. We truly appreciate your patience and continued support for the Drive-In.
