Fort Hope Girls Summer Sports Camp 03.06.2021

Day 4: I think it’s safe to say that today Chloe and I both fell in love with Fort Hope and the surrounding nature. We had another successful day of camp with 12 girls playing basketball and soccer before cooling off in the lake! We all had fun swimming and dancing and getting to know each other more before heading off to dinner. Chloe and I along with 4 of the girls then played cards before saying goodnight. Chloe’s and I night had just begun though! Ricky picked us up for us to go visit some bears, see a gorgeous sunset, pick some blueberries, get chased by some wolves and then were blessed with some bedtime native stories on the long drive home. Today was nothing less than incredible.

Day 3: we’re back on track! We pushed the timing of the camp from 12-4 since most of the girls really love to sleep in. It’s perfect because it gives Chloe and I a relaxing morning and time to plan! Girls started trickling in and we roped them into some fun games to start off before leading into a soccer scrimmage. They loved the soccer and did really well; at our peak we had around 20-25 kids with us! It started to get very hot in the sun though, so we moved on to some bracelet making in the shade. Even the boys loved it ! Afterwards, Chloe and I got some rest and food before heading back out for some late night basketball games and cards. Busy but fulfilling day!

Day 2: when you’re on an adventure sometimes what you plan isn’t what happens. Our luggage has still not arrived and we wanted to fully start our sports camp today, but due to some unfortunate setbacks in the community we had to hold on to start until tomorrow. Regardless, today still turned out amazing. Chloe and I just started to play basketball on the court later in the afternoon and the girls slowly stayed to trickle in; soon enough we had 8-10 girls with us! We all played and just hung out for a couple of hours to break the ice and get to know one another. Today was a day of figuring out. The girls were also super brave to suggest swimming in the freezing lake! Though confusing at times, today was another beautiful day and we’re looking forward to more girls and our camp officially starting tomorrow!

Day 1: we arrive! Starting at 3:30am in the morning and hopping on and off 3 planes, we arrived at 12:30. We were greeted by the Rez dogs and moved into the Inn that’s right across the road. We got an awesome tour of the Rez by Ricky Atlookan and then took a well needed nap! Around 5 we headed out to the last night of the Pow wow. The traditional singing, dancing, and dress was made all the better by all the super excited kids running around waiting for the moose meat. The girls took a liken to us quite quickly and started in on revamping our hair. At the moment Chloe and I are finally relaxing and waiting for the sunset!

Hey Fort Hope Girls ages 8-14! Join us this Monday to Friday from 10am-12pm for your basketball skills and games, where we will then break for a lunch, to meet back up for 1pm-3pm in the afternoon for some more soccer skills and fun! It is free of charge and an afternoon snack will always be provided. Remember to bring a hair tie, running shoes (or any closed-toe shoe you can run in), and a water bottle! As long as it’s not raining we’ll meet at the outdoor basketball courts behind the school everyday. Super excited to meet you all and spread the word! :)
