It was 82 years ago this very day, August 1, 1938, that #FortHenry was opened as a museum and historic site to the public by Prime Minister Mackenzie King, in... the name of all British Soldiers who served there. That day also saw the first public parade of the Fort Henry Guard, the idea of Fort restorer, Ronald L Way, to breathe life into the "Old Stones". His was an innovative and trend setting move which was ahead of its time: Fort Henry was the first museum in Canada to attempt this kind of interpretation. Ever since day one, we have tried to make a good impression on those who visit us. Prime Minister Mackenzie King wrote in his diary that night that, The visit to Fort Henry itself was of exceptional interest. Indeed I shall recall it always as one of the greatest and most significant events of my life. Happy Birthday Fort Henry, and happy birthday Fort Henry Guard!
