I don’t know who needs to hear this but ‘Needle Phobia’ is a real thing. Shaming someone who wants to get a vaccine but is terrified of needles, does not work. Photos & videos of needles in arms can be a form of exposure therapy but also can lead to avoidance of the vaccine. ... To anyone on social media who is struggling with wanting to help protect their community, but feels paralyzed with fear, you are not alone. Each day you think about getting the vaccine is a day closer to following through. Not everyone will understand how crippling the phobia is, but many on social media are here to encourage the efforts you can make to overcome the obstacles. The medical personnel at the vaccine sites are trained to assist you through the panic. It took me years & the diagnosis of my son with Type 1 diabetes to finally overcome my own fears. I still get anxiety, but no longer let it prevent me from accessing healthcare. Just sharing for those who may need an understanding shoulder right now & a gentle nudge.
