Perfect weather for nighttime skiing! Did you know that members have access to lit trails! The 1km and the loop around the biathlon range are both lit. Members turn the lights on before and after their ski. If you don't know where the light switches are, message us on FB and we'll let you know. If you haven’t tried nighttime skiing, invite a friend and set a date! No excuses during these warmer winter days!... Here are some pics captured by our member Debbie Dillon. Magical pics! Thanks Debbie for letting us share them. If you don’t have a membership yet, please register at www.Zone4.ca and search Fort Smith Ski Club. Happy skiing!

We got lots done! 2020-2021 Membership registration will be up on Zone4.ca soon and the club will be operational early November to take advantage of the early snow and warm temperatures. Anyone have a spare set of skating skiis, poles and boots 9 1/2? JC McDonald is in town and would like to go for a spin. JC was one of the stars of our biathlon program. He competed first in snowshoe and then ski biathlon at several AWG's and Canada Games. He swept gold at the AWGames in Whitehorse in 2000. JC and his family gave a lot to our ski club and program as volunteers, organizers and coaches. It would be wonderful to help this young man out with gear so he can check out his old training ground.
Trails are in GREAT shape. Thanks to the person who groomed. Along with skiing another workout is shovelling. If you're missing the gym workouts at Joan's, the Ski Club deck is buried in hard packed snow. With warm weather approaching(cross our fingers) the snow will get heavy. I started chipping away at it today but if anyone has time it would help protect the deck structure. Even if a few of us did a little every day. To parents who are interested in a homeschooling project it could be a good science study on snow. Or they could make snow blocks and build igloos.
March 20-2020 Fort Smith Ski Club trails are freshly groomed for skate skiing and track-set for classic skiing (thanks Dennis!). Please get out on the trails and enjoy the fresh air and beautiful views in this fantastic spring weather while we can!! Please remember to practice social distancing while out on the trails. Please note that the club house is closed and all regular ski programs are cancelled for the season.
Congratulations to Calista and Danika Burke for the fast skiing, great shooting at the biathlon race in Hinton on the weekend. Proud of both of you. Next stop, Canadian Champs. Nice loppet hat by the way Calista.
45th Thebacha Loppet has started!!! Beautiful weather and great trails! Come join us for our potluck tonight at 6pm at the ski club. ... Bring a dish to share!! All members welcome!!
Warmer temps have been awesome for the biathlon team. More range time and fantastic ski conditions. Enjoy the warm weather!
Bravo to YK Ski Club for the warm welcome to a biathlete from Ontario who needed a club to join. This is not the first. NWT Biathlon has a history of helping out strays and including them in their team despite opposition from Sport bureaucrats at times. At 2009 Canadian Biathlon championships a young girl from Quebec was not able to race with her province. She had met Team NWT at the previous year's competition and asked if she could join us. Our head coach, Pat Bobinski welc...omed her along with our future olympian Brendan Green. In 1994, a young lady from Germany was an exchange student in Hay River. Isabelle Endres qualified for AWG's and joined her friend Ryma Anneliunas on the podium for gold medal sweep in snowshoe biathlon at the AWG's in Slave Lake Alberta. Let's continue our tradition of warm welcomes to others. It helps them and as Pat argued with Biathlon Canada officials who tried to stop our young friend from Quebec, " Why not?" See more
Temperatures were a bit colder this weekend, but it didn’t stop the biathlon team from training. And the TrackAttack skiers. Another great weekend on the range.
There will be a Thebacha Loppet planning meeting at 7PM Tuesday January 28th at the ski club. This year's Thebacha Loppet is scheduled for Saturday, March 7th and will be organized by a committee of volunteers. Hope to see you there!
