You ask, we answer! After about three decades, the IELTS test has recently been available in "Computer-Delivered" format. There is basically no difference between the old pen and paper and the new Computer-Delivered IELTS tests. The only difference is candidates can receive their test results within 5-7 days after the test if they take the online (Computer-Delivered) version, almost half the wait time compared to the pen and paper version which is 13-14 days. ... The good news, or perhaps not so good to some, is the Speaking component of the Computer-Delivered IELTS remains totally unchanged and candidates will have to have an 11-14-minute face-to-face interview with a real examiner in a private and quiet room. The other three components (Listening, Reading, and Writing) of the computer-based IELTS will be online which are quite similar to the pen and paper format. And oh, you can have free access for 30 days to online IELTS test prep materials if you register for that. If you don't like the new development or are totally unimpressed, another great piece of news is you can still stick with the almost-30-year-old pen and paper version. So, no pressure!
