Achilles Tendon pain During the month of November, we will be discussion foot & ankle pain.. today @spatel.physio talks about running and Achilles pain So you’ve laced up your shoes, downloaded a pump up playlist and you’re finally ready to hit the pavement But your run is cut short by sharp pain near your heel.... Many runners are familiar with the pain that comes with Achilles Tendinopathy, that dull ache that increases with intensity But why does this happen? The Achilles tendon is the largest and strongest tendon of the human body It connects both your calf muscles to your heel bone. These muscles play an important role in running by propelling us forward at toe off and absorbing shock during initial contact. The harder these muscles have to work, the more stress is put through the tendon. This can lead to injury when the loads put on the muscles exceed their capacity. Reasons this may be happening: Increasing mileage too quickly Over training Muscle weakness or decreased mobility Improper footwear Don’t let this be your Achilles Heel , book with one of our physiotherapist to help you train without pain. @spatel.physio is now taking new and return clients for full running assessments at our City Place Clinic located at Front & Spadina See more
