Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. This year, it has been clearer than ever that we are not each others enemies. Rather, our common enemy is a tireless virus that threatens our health, security and very way of life. COVID-19 has thrown our world into turmoil and forcibly reminded us that what happens in one part of the planet can impact people everywhere.
Repost from Foundry BC.... Please check out the link below As you and your family prepare for the start of a new year of school from home, you or your family might have concerns about cyberbullying. This is a form of bullying that uses texting, social media or technology to hurt, harm and threaten others. We are all connected on social media more than ever due to the stress of staying updated on COVID, spending more time at home, and trying to stay connected with peers/friends. If you are looking for more information on bullying, resources and supports or tips for how to support someone being bullied please check out our section on Bullying by clicking the link below.

It's Pride Week! Though there aren't any events or parades, let's celebrate online together and recognize some very amazing people who have helped with LGBTQIA2...+ rights. Marsha P. Johnson was an activist, self-identified drag queen, performer, and survivor. She was a prominent figure in the Stonewall uprising of 1969. Marsha went by Black Marsha before settling on Marsha P. Johnson. The P stood for Pay It No Mind, which is what Marsha would say in response to questions about her gender. It is the consideration of who Black Marsha was that inspired The Marsha P. Johnson Institute. Marsha P. Johnson was born on August 24, 1945 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Despite a lifelong struggle with mental illness, homelessness, prostitution, and dozens of arrests, Marsha became a beloved figure in the LGBTQ civil rights movement beginning at the Stonewall uprising in 1969 and continuing through the 1980s with ACT UP. Vancouver Coastal Health is launching a new page you can check for recent COVID-19 exposures: https://bit.ly/2WOrLzW When and why does VCH issue exposure alerts? VCH Public Health teams follow up with all confirmed COVID-19 cases and their close contacts.... If Public Health determines there may have been low-risk public exposure and are unable to contact all possible contacts, an alert will be added to this page. We also post updates on social media. I visited one of these listed locations at the specified time. What should I do? Monitor yourself for symptoms and continue with your daily activities. If you develop symptoms, however mild, call your family doctor or 8-1-1, seek testing and then self-isolate. Where can I find exposure alerts for flights, work sites, cruises, long-distance bus and train travel and public events? You can find those on the BCCDC website, here: http://www.bccdc.ca//diseases-co/covid-19/public-exposures Read more about COVID-19 exposure alerts: https://bit.ly/2ZSnMUE
As we have started to see the uptick in COVID-19 numbers this is an important reminder that we need to keep taking care of each other and ourselves by washing our hands, wearing masks if possible, and keeping our social circles small. As we are starting to see an increase in younger people, this is the time for our Youth to help spread the word. Dr. Bonnie Henry wants YOU to be her voice! To educate, to spread the word and to be safe.
