You know it's cold when you cannot even see the cows in your barn when the doors are open! To keep calves warm, blankets are put on them and all doors are tightly closed. As for the sows, they snuggle close to each other to keep warm.

These calves are eagerly waiting on their afternoon meal. They know that there is milk waiting for them in those bottles!

Sows give birth to an average of 12 piglets per litter. It is natural for piglets as well as any ages including sows themselves to crowd together for comfort and sleep.

Cows are curious creatures, they are always checking out new things in their environment. She is sniffing my camera to see if it is anything to be concerned about.

Flashback to the nice warm weather. All the hard work sure pays off when the shed is stacked with hay and the silage pits are all filled.

These steers out on pasture are finished and ready to be butchered. Large orders such as a whole or half of a beef are available, they can be bought directly through Fox Dairy Farms. Single and smaller cuts are also available through Long Table Grocery.

Moving the cow calf pairs to pasture for summer is a chaotic but exciting event. Calves and cows are loaded into the transport trailer separately to make sure calves don’t get trampled. Out on pasture the trailer doors open and all animals rush out, frantically reuniting with each other. Contently munching on green grass the cows and calves are set for a summer out on pasture.

It's that time of the year again when all windows need to be rolled up when passing farmer’s fields. But the natural fertilizer and water is what allows the crops to reach their full potential.

What a successful first crop! Two busy days later and silage pit #1 is full and pit #2 is well on its way.

This past weekend was very busy for us, we got the calves branded, dewormed and vaccinated. Now they are ready to go on the pasture for the summer!

Finally all the snow has melted and we are out and about with the tractors. Spring means field preparation and seeding of feed barley and forage crop. Next up is the corn!
